Welcome to the Freethought Forum
The lofty high Renaissance and marked mannerism. The heavy and ornate Baroque era, followed by the gentle Rococo. Harsh neo-classicism, rich romanticism, lush naturalism, stern realism, blurred impressionism. Heady surrealism, blockish cubism, postwar Dada, pointy-cornered art deco and cookie cutter Bauhaus. Let us skip the dreariness of the past half century and arrive finally at FF Style.

Health and Fitness Track, 2018
Mar 17, 2018 - 5:59 PM - by viscousmemories
My employer struck a deal with Lifetime Fitness whereby we get 1/2 price membership so long as we visit the club at least 6 times a week, so I joined up. I also gave them a limb in exchange for 8 personal training sessions and 8 Pilates sessions. The personal training is over, thank god, but I've decided to continue with Pilates twice a week for the foreseeable future. It's a lot of great core work and since I have a habit of throwing out my back, I need that.

I've also been living a "low-carb" lifestyle, by which I mean no bread, pasta, sugar, etc. unless the net carb count is low, and trying to keep the overall calorie count low as well. I've lost 10 pounds in the ~5-6 weeks I've been doing this but I know I can do better. I too often use fact that I'm avoiding carbs as an excuse to eat more than I need of low-carb foods.

I've been happy with my decision to cut carbs overall, especially since the less I eat the less I crave them. I highly recommend bread products from thinslimfoods.com (thanks @livius) for great tasting, low-carb bread products.

Martin Shkreli sentenced to Seven Years ...
Mar 10, 2018 - 7:59 PM - by The Lone Ranger
... for fraud.

You remember "Pharma Bro" Shkreli, who raised the price of life-saving medication by more than 5,000%? He has been sentenced to seven years for federal fraud charges related to hedge funds.

As plenty of people have pointed out, he was not punished for price gouging poor, desperate people -- even though it's all but certain that some people died because of his actions. What he was punished for is misleading investors -- that is, for taking money from people who were (mostly) rich.

Screw poor people and get away scot-free, even if some of them die as a result of your actions. Screw rich people, and you go to jail.
