Welcome to the Freethought Forum
The lofty high Renaissance and marked mannerism. The heavy and ornate Baroque era, followed by the gentle Rococo. Harsh neo-classicism, rich romanticism, lush naturalism, stern realism, blurred impressionism. Heady surrealism, blockish cubism, postwar Dada, pointy-cornered art deco and cookie cutter Bauhaus. Let us skip the dreariness of the past half century and arrive finally at FF Style.

Farina'd at the Oscars
Feb 10, 2020 - 6:35 PM - by specious_reasons
One of the podcasts I listen to, We Hate Movies, has a tradition of noting the shitty job the Academy does in recognizing important people who have passed.

They call it "getting Farina'd" - because that's the first glaring omission the Academy had in the 2014 broadcast, which outraged the guys of WHM. Chris Cabin did a running commentary of people missed on Twitter.

Just some of the names I'm annoyed they missed: Rene Auberjonois, Billy Drago, Peggy Lipton, Sid Haig, Luke Perry, Jessie Lawrence Ferguson, Tim Conway, Michael J. Pollard, Max Wright, and Katherine Helmond. They also missed Cameron Boyce, a Disney performer who died tragically early.

I understand they feel they have to cull the list somehow, but honestly they really suck at this. I think all of these people are Academy members and many of the above appeared in classics or Oscar nominated films. Luke Perry was in a movie nominated for the Oscars this year!

They managed to get Kirk Douglas in, but I suspect they already had that one planned.

I'M SORRY OK. I come from an older generation when making new threads was not seen as a big thing.

Also sorry: not influenza, but coronavirus. DEAL WITH IT.

Did China fuel Wuhan coronavirus spread with information crackdown? - Business Insider
Quote:
China spent the crucial first days of the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak arresting people who posted about it online and threatening journalists
So, #WinnieTheFlu

The situation:
The Wuhan coronavirus outbreak started sometime in December, at (probably) a seafood wholesale market in Wuhan, Hubei province, central China. Although it seems less deadly than SARS (2003), and the apparent mortality rate may be inflated by more serious cases being diagnosed first, the death toll is around 41 and over 1,300 cases are known in mainland China and a small number in over 10 other countries.

Wuhan has been locked down, closed to travel in or out, and travel bans are being established in some other areas. Lots of people will already have travelled for the Chinese New Year, so it's bound to continue spreading. The WHO has not yet declared this a global emergency, but lots of airports now have fever scanners and other such checks.

Chinese city of Wuhan plans to build a 1,000-bed coronavirus hospital in just 10 days :damn:... [Read More]
