So, I'm thinking of running a Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead mafia game here on ff.

It should be fun. Based on the movie of the same name. I plan to pull some verbage, roles and death scenes all from the movie. It happens to be my second favorite movie of all fucking time.

This thread isnt for sign up just yet. I'm waiting for TomJoe to start Mafia V first. Just want to kick around some ideas, I think I might use the semiopen format, where the players are told of all possible roles but not for sure what roles will actually be in place.

Jimmy the Saint from Flatbrush- went to seminary but lost his calling but in the day the bitchest bastard. Make him the cop, he goes around trying to figure out who is working for the Man With the Plan.

Critical Bill- "they call him critical bill cuz back in the day he never went up against someone without putting them in critical condition at the least" When a mafia member goes to kill critical bill, the mafia killer dies as well, Critical Bill shouting,"I am Godzilla, you are Japan!"

Franchise- tattooed and in it all cuz of Jimmy cuz they were friends back in the day. Franchise avoids death the first time someone tries to kill him cuz on Jimmy's advice, he puts it in the wind.

Pieces Palmero- once danced the foxtrot with a thousand dollar a night hooker, has a skin condition, and a real stand up guy.

Easy Wind- still has some issues with Critical Bill from the time they were locked up together a very stand up guy though.

Mr. Shh- the deadliest killer west of the Mississippi, they call him Mr. Shh cuz he doesnt talk that much. "You can tell me where Earl Denton is, or you can tell the worms."

The Head, also known as the man with the plan, runs everything.

Lt. Atwater- the man with the plan's corrupt cop, can investigate players to find out there role.

anyway, im still kicking around ideas, but the movie offers some great death scenes no doubt about it. if we get enough players critical bill can be a vigi.

there is alot i can do with this setup, just need to see how many players are interested in playing.

I suppose I would have to see the movie first.

Sounds interesting though.

Nah, you can totally play with out seeing the movie, I will provide everyone with all they need to know about their roles. Also if it is a concern, I will be using caps and punctuation for the game.

While the game might be more fun if you have seen the movie, it will not be necessary to see the movie to enjoy the game. Also to make it a mafia game, I'm definitely going to have to tweak the movie some to fit the format. Im thinking about letting some players/roles know what one other role is, like pairs of masons, if we get enough players. Jimmy the Saints love interest Dagne could know who he is and perhaps Lucinda will know who Franchise is. Im hoping to make the game very interesting and very fun.

But you want have to have seen the movie to play.

Btw, anyone who is interested should totally sign up for Tomjoe's mafia game if he decides to run it first.

Yes. Please do. It makes the game flow better.

I certainly understand, MonCap, I don't want to turn anyone off of the game because of something like punctuation or grammar.

I think I'd still want to see it...makes the whole thing a bit more interesting. Plus it sounds like a pretty good movie.

It is definitely a great movie. Great characters, great script, great acting. The language is a little dense, they kind of invented a dialect for the movie, but it is simply an awesome movie.

When did this movie come out, by the way? I never heard of it before? Is it old? Is it obscure? Is it old and obscure?

Came out in 1995.

It was a miramax movie and it just didn't get any hype. I discovered it on video in 96 i guess, that year my brother and I rented just about every movie that came out. It's got a lot of mixed reviews, some people thought it was too derivative of Pulp Fiction, others seemed to dislike for glorifying violence or some such shit. I think part of the problem of the movie is the dialect, its also the part that I love. The people in the movie have a very particular way of talking and their very own culture. It's a great fucking movie.

It starred, Treat Williams, Andy Garcia, Christopher Walken, William Forsyth, Christopher Loyd, Steve Buscemi, Gabrielle Anwar, and Faruiza Balk.

Great cast, and a great fucking movie.

So it looks like TomJoe is not going to be available to run the Mafia game...are we going to give this thing a go?
