freemonkey is doing a wonderful job of making avatars from pictures of art works already in the public domain. Scroll down to The Art Collection (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/misc.php?do=showavatars) to have a look at them.
Thank you, freemonkey! :)

you're welcome, I just snagged a new one for myself.
I might try to slow down and title them properly in future. Or maybe we can make a game of guessing about them. :museum:
p.s., I like that you organized that huge smiley list!

And if anyone can guess mine, I'll give you a cookie. :D

hiya, Helen! How's things?
Adora, I haven't found the original files I took those from yet, so I don't have the answers to the "museum game".
I really need to be more careful.

Good :) We went to the Botanic Garden here yesterday; it was very beautiful with many things in flower and the most amazing array of water-lily flowers I've ever seen (the source of my new avatar - not that I have anything against art collection avatars :)). And it was perfect weather - sunny but a little below average for here in July - it was mid 70s, probably. It's been quite cool this summer and I've been appreciating it. Late Spring/Early Summer was very wet here and although no-one likes that, it does mean that everything is greener than usual for the time of year, making it especially pretty.
I hope things are going well for you :)

I've uploaded a bunch more gorgeous pieces freemonkey sent me. Lots of Leonardo da Vinci in this round, including my all time favorite:

I hope y'all don't mind, but I went ahead and moved this thread to Arts & Literature. It seemed more appropriate.

Hmmm... One of the Pre-Raphaelites, perhaps?
Alma-Tadema?

I was thinking Pre-Raphaelites too, godfry, but I'm not sure about Alma-Tadema. Her hair would probably be down, for one thing, and the smooth darkness of her eyebrows just don't say Sir Lawrence to me.
C'mon, Adora. End the suspense.

Well, I'd say it's not "gauzy" enough for Waterhouse and too much detail development for Rossetti (and it's _not_ Jane). Also not Billy Morris. And not Bouguereau. Perhaps someone in the French Fine Arts tradition?
It's certainly a beautious face. :hearts:
It sure looks like it could be Pre-Raphaelite....
