Basically, I think it's good.
But I always have other suggestions.
Based upon the character, I'd say that Calvin would multiple the number of costumes...perhaps by just changing small things about himself....a la face paint. Then he'd screw up his face into whatever it was to scream "Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!"
Twelve times.
...that means twelve times the candy!
Another would be to get Hobbes (as the stuffed toy tiger) with bag in hand. Double twelve candies!
But I recognize that it would be a lot and I'll go with just the ghost.

And Crumb's is my favourite, that couldn't have come together any nicer than when I hit those pics on Google image search. :)
ETA: The programs I am using are Ulead Photoimpact 8 for image editing, (similar to Photoshop in function, but I fucking hate Adobe with a passion - I'll no doubt be posting a rant about what fuck-ups they are at a thread near you soon), and Ulead Gif Animator 5.
I think it's important not to look for a program that does 'everything' you want, but a bunch of programs that are specific, easy to use, and interact well together.
That way you can find and learn the functions you want quickly and easily, and you don't have to wait two fucking hours for the program to load up, just so you can crop a pic or some shit like that.
Adobe/Apple writes programs that do the job, maybe, but good luck finding the functions where any normal human being would put them. Their software feels like it was written by a hundred different people all locked in separate broom cupboards and not allowed to talk to each other.
On the other hand, Ulead kicks arse. The interface is intuitive, cleverly designed and isn't pandering to some fucking stupid counter-productive marketing ploy. It does all primary functions, and does them well. Good continuity too, I've been using Ulead Photoimpact since I got version 3 on the driver disk of my Canon printer in 1998.

I'd love to, but I've been going at this all day and it's 3am.
Miisa, I've been racking my brains over that goddamned penguin all day, and just can't seem to think of anything off the top of my head.
I am personally trying not to use the same idea twice, vampire, skeleton, frankenstein, etc. I know there has to be something that goes really well with a penguin, or that particular pic, so I don't want to do anything half-hearted. I liked the seal though.
At any rate, I'm not the only one around here who can do this stuff, liv obviously knows what she's doing, and I'm sure there would be a few more from the avatars I've seen. Besides, we have all of October to really Halloween this place out.
ETA: Ha. I like the batwings liv.
I just has another thought. You could turn the penguin into a black hooded executioner because he already looks like he has a black hood on, and you could just extend it down his neck a bit perhaps. Then stick an axe in his hand. There's also something about his posture that has a formal air about it, like an executioner has when awaiting to do his duty. After that it's just blood, severed heads and chopping blocks to complete the decor.

I use Macromedia Fireworks and Jasc Animation Shop, both of which have some ways of applying transparency (or anything else, I suppose) to all frames at the same time. They're both weird about some things, though, so you end up having to go about it in a really circular way.

I've been wondering where you got to. I always fucking loved that avatar man. Cracks me up everytime I see it. I just saw the original video that it is from last month.
What's with that gif by the way? I wanted to really speed up the hammering on the wall to imply desperate panic and something to the effect of, "Hey, really get us the fuck out of here now", but all the frame delays are set to zero, and I even removed superfluous frames that were slowing it down, but that's as fast as I can get it to go.
Sock Puppet

No idea about all of that frame-delay stuff. I copped this gif from somebody else on another forum, and when I asked her about it, she just said she got it off a free avatar site someplace and couldn't remember where. So I have no idea where it came from, let alone how it was made. I've been meaning to learn how to make halfway-decent stuff in PSP but never got around to it.

Some gifs don't carry framerates when you do a save as. I have no idea why, but it can be enormously annoying. I think Sock's av is just 10fps across the board. That's what I set it to, anyway. Seems aight.
