I like crosswords. I even do the New York Times ones, no matter how many times that Sunday one pisses me off. I keep coming back like a whipped dog to its master.
I'm also a cheap bastard. I hate to buy a whole newspaper just for a crossword, since I get most of my actual news online.
Does anybody have any links to free (legally obtained, o'course) crossword puzzles? I used to do the PopCap ones even though they had to be done on-screen, and were pretty rudimentary; ones that can be printed out and worked by hand are preferable. Now all the PopCap games are blocked from work, so I can't even do those.

If you have a puzzle that can be viewed on a screen then you can always do a screen capture and print that. I recommend Meazure (http://www.cthing.com/Meazure.asp) (it's free) for doing this.
If the whole thing doesn't fit on the screen at once, then you might have to use one capture for the grid and others for the clues. If the whole grid won't fit on the screen at the same time, then it's probably not worth the bother of grabbing the thing in chunks and stitching them back together again.

Across Lite has a print option. I used to download cryptic crosswords for that from a few places. I don't remember off the top of my head and I don't have the links handy, but if you're interested, I can probably refind that.

Heck, I spend 1.50 every Sunday, just for the crossword.
Chin up, Sock. It took me ten years before I finished a Sunday crossword. Now, I finish them darn near every week. In pen, of course. No puzzler with their salt uses and eraser. White-out on occasion, but never an eraser.

Chin up, Sock. It took me ten years before I finished a Sunday crossword. Now, I finish them darn near every week.Oh, I finish them fairly often, but that doesn't stop me from bitching every time they pull some dumbass stunt, like using one square for an entire recurring word, or symbols (such as an asterisk that's supposed to mean "star") instead of letters. A good crossword should be one letter per square. Period.

Looks like they use the same engine as the dictionary.com puzzle, but they are different.

Looks like they use the same engine as the dictionary.com puzzle, but they are different.AARP and other sites seem to use the same engine, too. Difference is, most everyone else doesn't make you subscribe to access the previous days' puzzles.
