Very good:

House of Sand and Fog
A good, sad drama with Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly.

The Straight Story
David Lynch flick about an old man drives a lawnmower hundreds of miles to see his brother. IMO this film wasn't very heavy on trademark Lynch effect, but it was very ponderous and had enough flashes of the absurd for my taste.

Must see:

The Man Who Wasn't There
Coen Brothers flick, but I swear I'd say you have to see it even if I wasn't a complete and total bitch for every one of their movies.

If you hated any of these movies that's okay. There can only be so many cool people in any given forum, and it's getting full up here anyway.

For those who have seen The Man Who Wasn't There, what is wrong with me that I laughed at the following scene?

(paraphrased)
Coroner: I just thought you should know your wife was pregnant. Well, there it is.
(silence)
Coroner: God, I just hope I did the right thing.
Ed: My wife and I have not performed the sex act in many years.

In retrospect, it's such a sad and awkward event.

In any case, it was indeed a brilliant movie at the top of the list for the Coen Brothers. Then again, I'm a sucker for black and white cinematography.

Uh oh. You aren't going to pull up stakes and start a new forum again, are you?

I liked The Straight Story, hated House of Sand and Fog and had to look up The Man Who Wasn't There to see if I'd seen it. I had, and I remembered liking it.

Y'know, honestly I might've felt differently about House of Sand and Fog if I wasn't drooling all over Jennifer Connelly through the whole thing. That and I really love Ben Kingsley's proud, intense presence. Plus the characters even started to get developed a bit in the last 30 minutes or so... :)
