California Tanker

Anyone else cut their teeth on tin-plate three-rails? I believe it was somethig of a rite of passage for American males a few years ago.
Chap on another board was asking about a recommendation for a train set for his five-year-old. The average train set today wouldn't last five minutes against a five-year-old, but Lionel, made out of solid metal (Kindof like an old Tonka truck) was kid-proof. I got mine at three.
My Blue Comet is a thing of beauty, shame it's too big to fit easily into my suitcase and bring it from Ireland. Lights, noise, smoke, and diecast tough as a tank.

I got a Lionel three-rail train set for Xmas when I was 9 years old. I can tell you from experience, they're not indestructible because it was destroyed over a couple years time by my brothers 6 and 8 years younger than me, as were many other things I had over the years.

Ooooh, I was hoping this thread was going to be about trains!
I believe it was somethig of a rite of passage for American males a few years ago.How about us girls? OK, so I'm a bit of a tomboy.
I got my first Lionel train set from my brother, when he graduated to O gauge trains. (or was it HO? Can't remember) I was probably about 7. All we had was the figure 8 track, and the engine never worked right after my brother took it apart and put it back together. Nothing like the smell that accompanies a running model train.
We still have boxes and boxes of the O gauge trains, too. One day, when I have room, I want to set them up again.

Sorry :sadcheer:
To get things erm, back on track, as it were...
Pictures of the model railroad in Chattanooga (http://www.narrow-gauge.co.uk/gallery/254). Seen it in person, it's one of my favorite things in Chattanooga.
(sorry, it's not Lionel, but I don't know of any sites that have pics of a three rail setup)
