Southern Culture on the Skid's, "Clyde's Lament."
I got five fingers on one hand
On the other one I just got three
I lost one finger in a huntin' accident
Lost the others in factory

I did indeed almost miss them! (If by almost missing you mean never hearing of, that is.)

Wanna tell you a story
'Bout a woman I know
When it comes to lovin'
Oh she steals the show
She ain't exactly pretty
Ain't exactly small
Forty-two, thirty-nine, fifty-six
You could say she's got it all
Never had a woman
Never had a woman like you
Doing all the things
Doing all the things you do
Ain't no fairy story
Ain't no skin and bone
But you give it all you got
Weighing in at nineteen stone

Okay. Five on one hand, three on the other hand. He lost one finger while hunting, that leaves four fingers. Then he lost others. Others? Plural? How many fingers did he have to begin with?
In a related story.... I had a grandmother who worked in a sheet metal factory, she'd lost maybe half her fingers. At different times! I think I'd have found another job after the first one.

Are you sure the lyric is actually "others" and not "other"?
Hmmmm.....odd.

Yes, I am sure.
Clyde is a little messed up.

Of course, we're assuming the subject of the lyric had the average 10 fingers to begin with. :D

I thought this thread was going to be about lyrics you have completely misunderstood. Brim will have to forgive me for posting something off-topic.
In the song "Spiderwebs" by No Doubt where she sings "I screen my phone calls" I thought she was saying "I scream my balls off". In retrospect it makes no sense considering Gwen Stephani is female.

I maintain that it makes sense after all.
