View Full Version : 3 people, 3 things

I dunno why, but I think that there are some people here who are not feeling so great about themselves lately.
So, I thought I'd start a little thread where we pick three people who are members here and say three(ish) things that we like and admire about those people. A kinda Thanksgiving, I guess, to those traits in people we think are wonderful.
I've made it 3 things, 3 people because otherwise we'd get all paranoid about having left someone out, or something - hence the limit.
I also think it's a good idea if we didn't respond with nice things about the person who said nice things about you. So, Lady Shea, Ronin and Livius are not able to speak of me in this thread - they must choose three different people if they choose to respond in this thread. I think that's only fair. :)
So without further ado, I'd like to give thanks to these wonderful traits in these three people:
Lady Shea:
I love you because you are so generous in your spirit, you always stand up for what is right and you consider your points of view very carefully and express your ideas and knowledge well. You are so strong and loving, and are a loyal friend. You are enterprising and have a "never say die" attitude to life, love and liberty. And that is so cool.
Ronin:
I love you because you think and feel very deeply, and are such an active and positive force in your community. You work hard and take good care of your family, always trying to do the right thing. When you are relaxed and happy, you have a wonderful sense of fun.
Livius Drusus:
I love you because you have a great command of the English language, and you always have me running to GuruNet to look up all them big words an' that. You also have a great sense of humour and your playful moods make you fun to be around. You knowledge of art and literature humbles me and I adore it when you share that knowledge with the rest of us. You have a great sense of fairness and balance.
By my own rules I must stop there, but I could go on about so many of you.
Thank you for being such great people. :glomp2:

Brimshack:
I love you because you make me laugh. That's important to me right now. I respect your wit.
Adora:
I love you because you are smart. You also have no problem expressing what's on your mind and I respect that. Everytime I see a post made by you I smile to myself thinking, Boy this is going to be good.
Wade:
I love you because your posts reflect my own thoughts and emotions. You say the things I wish I could say but don't know how.

Yay, Ex-Zombie!
Thank you for contributing. It's lovely to see the wonderful, and to let those you think are wonderful know it. The hardest part is just keeping to three people, though, eh. :yup:
:vibes: :cheer: :10:

It was very hard keeping it to just three. There were two more people I wanted to add but I knew you would hunt me down and hurt me badly. :D

Rules are made to be broken, babe; add them if you like.
I'm sure they will appreciate the warm fuzzies; if they happen to be feeling at all blue today, your words may lift them up. :)

All right. Just remember you gave me permission.
Goliath:
I love Goliath because he is sensitive, smart, and rowdy. I was going to add him to the above list but I didn't want him to think that I thought he was down. I don't think he needs props. He just happens to be one of my favorite posters.
Warrenly:
I love Warren because of his warm and humorous posting style. If I am down I know I can read his posts and feel better. Although he is probably going to make me laugh myself to death.

In fact, I'll break my own rules and add a couple more, too. :)
Lauri D:
I love you because you are so vibrant. You express yourself so well, and with such good humour. You are a great writer, and I hope one day to see a book by you. Your smilie use is to be admired. :yup:
Farren:
I love you because you are so knowledgeable about world politics and economics, and you share that knowledge without any condescension. You have such great heart and empathy, and I love your world view. You're an absolute honey, and I could just hug you like a mama bear.
Lone Ranger:
I love you because you are such a gentleman. You are generous in your perceptions of people and situations. Your delight in the natural world around you is beautiful. You remind me of a fairy tale Prince - noble, honest, loving and strong.
Beyelzu:
I love you because you are so badass, but not really if you know what I mean. Your hide may be thick, but your underbelly is soft, babe, and you can't fool me into thinking you're made entirely of buffalo leather. You are generous, honest, direct and loyal.
Yup, it sure is hard to stick to just three people. And, again, I could go on... :yup:

Okay.
Goliath. I think Goliath is awesome. He has a brilliant and wicked sense of humor. He has found an interesting combination of sticking to his guns, and checking where they're aimed, that I think shows a great deal of integrity. He takes self-improvement seriously, and I respect that a lot.
Livius:
Where to begin? Livius is cool. Livius makes me think that a world with religious and non-religious people could be a damn fun place to live. Livius is also funny. And, in case "cool" didn't really count, I should point out that she runs a mean messageboard. (Er, I mean that in the good way.)
Sweetie:
Sweetie is refreshingly honest in a world full of people who can't say what they mean. She's kind and concerned for people, even when she doesn't agree with them, which is especially rare among people who are, well, blunt. Also, she is by all accounts an excellent mother.

Thank you, seebs. :D
Don't hide your love away, people. Release the doves!

I cannot do this. There are so many and so many nice things have been said to me and about me (except for what I don't know that's gone on behind my back  ) that I wouldn't know where to start. Besides, if I mention 99 different people in my adoration, the 100th that I missed will feel bad.

That's cool, Warrenly, and I'm sure you are not the only person who feels uncomfortable in a thread like this one.
I have names still running through my head, and would like to say what it is I like and admire about them, but it would be too much. Hence the (now broken) three people rule.
But I totally respect where you ae coming from. :)
I'm just in a lovely-dovey, hippy sharing mood and couldn't help but go all gushy.

I like Adora because she is a loud bitch. I think her art is cool. I think she takes yao way too fucking seriously.
Lunachick fucking rocks. One day I might get to hear her say smart arse which she calls me all the time. I think her three things rule sucks because I couldnt decide on just three for these people. But petra knows that she rocks. Btw you realize that there is a cool I am lunachick, lunachick is my mom thing going on when you post under Zoe cuz of the signature.
I love warrenly's kite. Get your mind out of the gutter you bastards. I really dig his posting style. I think it's cool that we have the same middle name
Vm kicks ass in his own increibly sincere and caring kind of way. too quote Michael Duncan in the Whole Nine Yards,"that is one sweet, sweet man. I am going to hate to have to kill him." I didnt say that outloud did I? Seriously, tom kicks ass.

Nil -- for depth of honesty and self-examination under trying circumstances; the journal especially shows these traits
Cool Hand -- clearly stated and rational thinking; even if we likely would not agree on much philosophically speaking, he's clear, honest and principled
Clutch Munny -- a scholar and a gentleperson, chivalrous in battle
On a sillier note, I'm in love with Scooty Doofus, Sonnet and Ymir's Blood b/c I owe my killer avatar & clever title to them!

lisarea, liv, and revdehlia.
I love the sense of humor all of you have, and it makes reading through those food/drink forum threads a very nice experience, as opposed to totally boring (my idea of gourmet being diet coke and cheese).

Lunachick
Because you shoot from the hip and its all good. You have a good heart, a great sense of humour and a sweet daughter.
Cool Hand
A diplomat is always welcome. With the wisdom of hindsight I realise some of my past criticisms, however politely phrased, were unfair. Being open to other views and advocating for sensible dialogue is often a lonely road and worthy of respect.
Seebs
Its great having a freethinking, highly intelligent and articulate Christian around to remind all the athiests that religious belief doesn't automatically make someone an asshole.
I deliberately chose two people who I haven't praised before because the rest of you know who you are. I had to offer props to Petra because she's such a honey and she started this thread.
Off topic: Liv PM'd me a short while back to say "What's up? You've been quiet". I'm swamped with work on a daily basis and struggling to sort my shit out with (among other people) the Revenue Services, the Hospital and trying to organise another place to stay and a car (been driving a borrowed one for months since my accident).
Everythings going great (as in, I have the resources to sort it all out) but I'm under immense pressure right at the moment and am completely stuffed every day when I get home from work and just don't have the energy to post. But I am lurking, in case anyone was wondering.
p.s. Nice avatar Luna.

Livius:
She deserves a category entirely of her own. Her wit, charm and intelligence make posting here the most welcome part of my day.
Lady Shea:
A true lady in every sense of the word. She is warm and personable, though never weak and wilting. An iron fist in a stylish velvet glove.
Lunachick:
If I had no other reason, this thread alone would be sufficient. Fortunately for me, I have plenty of other reasons. I find that I am consistently drawn to her posts.
Goliath:
I remain in awe of his all-encompassing knowledge of the Transformers. He has made rethink my position on Autobots. Perhaps they are not all lily-livered scum deserving of the scrap heap. Although, Bumblebee still needs to be shot in the face.

Okay let's do this and stay in the rules, huh?
Pescifish
Pesci is amazingly generous with everything she has and is without need for fanfare, and she is great company, whether chatting over dinner or watching a movie or doing nothing it is always comfortable and companionable...that is rare.
Wildernesse
Wildy is always thinking and reaching for more and always has something interesting or fun to say. She just makes me smile.
Lisarea
I love how Lisa's mind works. Period.

I've been trying to figure out how to reply in this thread for a while. I guess I just want to thank everyone who has said nice things about me.
And seebs, I'm sorry that we battle each other sometimes (including the ongoing battle in the "A threat?" thread).
There are times when I wish I didn't hate xianity.

Ah, it's all cool. We'll sort it out eventually.
... But you know, even with the avatar, I didn't realize you were a transformers fan. Like, a real fan. COOL! I loved that show, and I'm still sorta into it. If it weren't quite so expensive, I'd be collecting the DVDs.

Oh crap!
I will be fricking hours on this post, and the cornball side of me wants to do it anyway. At least I'll have the pleasure of knowing I have completely ignored both the spirit and the letter of the rule here by adding several too many people. Because there isn't a chance in Hell that I am stopping at 3. Actually, I'm not sure all these people are posting here, but I tend to blend all the boards together. And if I leave anyone out, just kick me in the nuts. I'll add your name through a newer higher voice.
Let's start with Ex-Zombie, partly because you just said something very nice about me and I'm all happy now, but also because you wished me a Happy Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. You are the only person who spoke (ok, typed) to me that day; it meant perhaps a little more than you might have imagined.
Tom and Liv for consistently taking moral issues associated with net-life far more seriously than just about anyone else I know. You two are a genuine force for good. ...Even if Liv is a spelling Nazi and Tom is now a regionally challenged mid-person who I can never talk to again. ...harrumph!
Annabel Lee, even though she rarely posts here, for being my oldest online friend and a source of more laughs and smiles than I can ever hope to repay.
Seebs, for consistently displaying the decency and kindness that I used to seek in religious circles, and for doing so often at precisely those moments when I was truly on the verge of embracing some very unhealthy attitudes toward those circles. More than once, your posts have been the only counter-example I could find. Damned inconvenient of you actually, but gadfly analogies and all that, you have been a positive influence.
Lunachick, just for being Lunachick, a quality that defies any attempt to break it down. Somehow just knowing your out there makes the world a richer and more interesting place.
Farren, for many a thoughtful post and interesting story, told in the days when we saw more of him.
Ladyshea, for being that "goldhearted bitch," as the title used to say. Your approach to many a subject and many a personal dilemma has been truly impressive. I wish I could handle people half as effectively as you do. When I grow up I wanna be just like you, really I do.
Pescifish, for proving consistently to be reasonable, thoughtful, and genial in every conversation we've had.
Laurie D: For your other username, which I still love. For writing a fricking book that I fully expect to see published some day. And for giving me several things to think about in that book.
Warrenly, for being a fellow redneck amongst a buncha cosmopolitans. And for being damn sensible at precisely those times when the rest of us are intent on going quite insane.
Xorbie, for being cool despite the hat.
Lanakila, for being full of more surprises than anyone else I know. Where is she these days anyway?
Roland, who despite being geographically challenged has really done quite well for herself. And who it is hoped will one day learn to witness mountains without trembling in fear. ...and for being just the sort of person that I can say those kind of things about.
Grizzly, for having a cool pair of socks, and for being a consistently great ally on CF.
Winace, for showing more courage than anyone else I know, and for his ability to create humor (I won't say "find") in a stuation that is beyond all tolerance.
Goliath, for helping me drive Liv crazy with occassional bouts of poor spelling, and for showing real depth of character.
D Scarletti, just when I thought I was getting the art of the barbed one-iner down, along comes the master...
Scotty, for avatars aplenty ...oh hey, that reminds me!
Diana, for combining an uncompromising attitude with intellectual subtelty in a way that I didn't think possible.
Godstopper: The name says everything.
Everyone else: for making the stupid box in front of me into the best damn party in town. I know I've left out some people I really think a lot of.
Adora
12-01-2004, 08:41 AM
Er, okay. Adora's post- WITH EXTRA HUGS because of a weird discussion in Infidel IRC recently and the fact that I don't think a lot of internet-people get enough hugs.
Beyelzu: I like your cock. And for some reason I find the fact you are a cock rather quaint. Maybe it's the fact that your icon doesn't lie. I don't like icons that don't lie. *hugs*
Beth: I know you are lurking now, but you are so sweet. The world needs people like you, never forget that. *hugs*
Dantonac: You pretty much always make me laugh, especially when you complain about foreigners and their evil measurement systems and chicken eggs. And you use one of my favourite icons from the set I made. So you get love and flower garlands, or something *hugs*.
