Thanks for the hellos, everyone.

Yep, I got cable....ZOOOOOOOM, MOTHERFUCKER!! :D

And yeah, the avatar seemed to fit. Someday, I might make one of my own (when I'm not lazy).

Sincerely,

I've had DSL or a cable modem for like the last 6-7 years wherever I've lived. In Chicago I had both, actually, 'cause the DSL dropped once for a couple days and I wasn't havin' any of that. :cool2:

High-speed connections are awesome! :)Yes they are Helen. :D

viscous memories, I'll bet you paid a pretty penny for DSL 6 or 7 years ago. I looked into it about then and it was higher than the satellite service offered by DirectPC, an offshoot of DirectTV, which was $96 a month back then. DSL was higher than that. Another alternative at the time was ISDN, but that required two phone lines and you couldn't use the phone at the same time, so it ended up costing about the same. Only four years ago, the phone company wanted about $100 a month here for DSL. If I could get it. Which I couldn't. Cable, on the other hand, several times faster and cheap enough to drive DSL prices down. Plus, I could actually get cable internet. Dial-up sucks. I think I'd give up on the internet altogether if I had to go back to dial-up.

Warren: fuck off.

The worst of it is, I have the good shit at work. So I know the sheer beauty that is high-speed internet; I just have to suffer through the woefully inadequate NetZero garbage at home. Woe is me...

Well, I think I'm here; the gremlins at my ISP were making my confirmation e-mails disappear, but VM worked some cyber-magic and it seems to have been successful.

Good avatars you have - I was pleased to find one of the X-ray Sun, which is the topic my husband researches. I must show him this picture and see if he recognises it. He was MOST disconcerted to see that the Sun picture on the cover of the last Left Behind book was one that he'd personally produced; the designers of the cover had acknowledged some picture agency, but not a word of thanks to NASA. I suppose it might have upset some of the True Believers to know that there was - yuck - science involved.

G'day, Goliath. I see you've been active in the arcade and have managed a few high scores. Nice. But I'm in there now, so prepare to lose. :nail:

And welcome! Hope you're having fun. :)

I am. :yup:

Oh, and if you end up taking all of my titles, then I can retort by saying that at least I have a life and don't stay in front of the computer playing flash arcade games all day. :P

Besides, I'm gonna get me a life one day, just you wait and see!

Awesome! Good to see you again.

So, there's a joke I saw on September 12th, which struck me as absolutely hilarious, but which is:
1. In bad taste.
2. A spoiler for Fight Club.
3. Funny anyway.

So, with rot13 for spoiler protection:

(Your avatar made me think of this.)

I'm sure that rot13 spoiler business warms your nerdly little heart, but round here we have a bbcode tag designed for that purpose, like so:

Now repost that tasteless joke for me! :D

No?

Authorities are seeking a tall, blonde, man who looks like Brad Pitt. Repeat, authorities are seeking... Wait, this just in. Authorities are seeking a medium-height man with brown hair who looks like Edward Norton.

:D Funny.

And I learned something. The spoiler tag is useless when you use e-mail subscriptions, 'cause the whole text of the message, undisguised, gets sent out as an e-mail. :(
