Yesterday should have been my first day back to work after Christmas, however :asshat: #3 made an appearance and once again my vehicle (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showpost.php?p=328371&postcount=27) was blocked. This time by a commerical van.

As I am supposed to start my shift at 5am, this is a little difficult to deal with. I called in to let work know I would be late. I called the number on the van, FUCK they don't open until 9am.

Now I don't know whose vehicle this is, though I have seen it off and on in the parking lot. I'm too nice of a person to start waking up my neighbors at 5am to get somebody to move the car (though I probably shouldn't be so nice).

9am rolls around and I call the company again. They have no idea why this vehicle is here but they will contact the driver. 30 minutes latere and the van is pulling out, however since more than half my shift has passed I have to call in and request a PTO day (if it had been less I could have gone in, worked a short shift and not have been charged PTO).

So now I have free time on my hands so I write a letter to the landlords to include with my rent check that details (the best I could) all four instances where this has been done.

Hopefully I can get some action on the problem. My brother's have been bothering me off and on now for about a year to move closer to them (they live about 30minutes away in Orchards, WA), and one thing this experience has done is push me further towards doing just that. I'll end up paying at least $100 more a month for rent but that's still not too bad.

Welcome to B-burg! Auto-related stupidity is exceedingly common there.

You get from Beaverton to Orchards, WA in 30 minutes?! :stunned:

Ok it's an Orchards address (IIRC), but it's just accross the 205 bridge off of SR500.

Pretty close really, and I drive fast :)

Usually I can't get downtown in 30 minutes. Of course I am almost in Hillsboro.

You were a lot nicer than I would have been about it by now, I'll tell ya that.

That's what a bar of soap is for...to leave messages. :D

Or a can of spray paint.

Or a carbide tipped centerpunch.

Uh... I wouldn't recommend that...it's vandalism.

A pack of Dickets (http://www.dicket.com/sample.htm) might be helpful, though.

Actually, I don't recommend what I appeared to recommend. I recommend calling and have the illegally parked vehicles towed to impound, where the owners can retrieve their vehicles at their own expense.

How does that work on private property? Does the property owner's representative (aka "property manager" or "apartment manager") have to request or approve of it? I mean, I can't just call in the tow truck to have every vehicle that offends me towed, can I?

Almost every private residential and commercial parking lot in the local area is posted with a sign (which always includes an advert for the towing company with their phone number) warning that unauthorized vehicles my be towed and impounded. Starting costs for springing your vehicle from the impoundment yard is about $120, and it goes up from there, as they charge a daily fee for storage, too.

And the daily storage fee starts the second it rolls onto the impound lot. 15 minutes or 24 hours=1 day.

Yeah... And I've had friends who've intercepted the tow truck driver in process and offered to pay the fee, only to be told that he'd have to go down to the impoundment lot and take care of all the paperwork and reclaim their car...paying the full day's storage charge in the process.

Well I had a letter in my mailbox on Wednesday from the owner's. I assumed it was in response to my previous letter about the parking problems.

I read it and I'm still not sure it is about the parking. What was in the letter I received (and possibly other tennant received, I have not asked) a notice of rent increase effective February 2007, for an additional $15/month.

That's disheartening. No phone calls, no letter in response to my complaint, simply a rent increase notice. This is the second increase in as many years, not that I am really complaining, I am still paying less than manrket and this is only the 3rd increase since I moved in ~8 years ago. It is, however, the second consecutively yearly increase since the new managment took over.

Well I am more motivated now than ever to find a new place to live.

Have you tried calling the owners, Zehava?
