I was thinking if there was a "No. of people in chat in the last 5 minutes" stat on the forum pages (say, under "Private messages: x unread...") you could instantly see if people were chatting or not - and would chat more often as a result.

Is this possible?

There's a "Who's Chatting?" link under the Quick Links menu. This will tell you who is in the chatroom at the time you click on it.

I don't think it is possible at this juncture, Farren. The Who's Chatting link wade mentions is the best we can do without hardcore tweakage.

I think. :search:

Oooh, I've never even looked at Quick Links before. Thanks, wade--and liv, who I didn't even see first off because I ran off trying to find this "Who's Chatting" thing without actually reading wade's entire sentence. I was that excited.

I have a rather slow life sometimes.

I killed it. Bwhahaha. Too bad I couldn't make a picture of him with a fork in his back. Ain't I a meanie!

I wrote about it in my journal a bit. hint, hint. :giggle: I'm a sucker for anything that counts visits.

Well that counter has gone up one now. I miss the monkey cause she was so happy, but the tranquil jonquil* is a lovely new you.

*I have no idea what kind of flower that is on account of my gardening idiocy. I just couldn't resist the adorable matching endings.

Mwhahahaha.

Which is a distinctly different expression from Bwhaha.

Oh, and thank you. :D

I think we should have scheduled chats with specific topics. That way, we can all research or study or read or whatever before the chat.

So there ;)

Actually, I doubt it would be a very hardcore tweak. Of course, that depends on how you define "hardcore tweak;" as a serious computer geek, my idea of what constitutes a hardcore tweak may not be the same as yours.

There must be a function already written somewhere in the php code for this, so the hard part is already done. It should mostly be a matter of finding that function in the "Who's Chatting?" code and referencing it as appropriate for the display Farren is asking for. Most likely it would be as simple as including the output of that function in the appropriate style sheet.

Now, whether that's worthwhile or would put an unwarranted strain on the server is another question. I doubt it would be too bad, but keep in mind this would require accessing the appropriate code every time anyone loads any page here.

I never noticed the "Who's chatting" link. Thanks!
