View Full Version : Wind, rain and more of both
We're having gales here, the BBC are showing 46mph for midday but it seems a lot stronger, I was almost blown over a little while ago.
In Portsmouth (south cost) they were recording gusts over 70mph with a constant of 68mph.
So far we've lost a fence pannel and it looks like a fence I have going across the garden to keep the dog off the mud/grass is on it's way over or even off to the land of oz.
Bounce is now housebound until the fence is fixed due to little children living next door.

It is reallyreally dark out here
not raining right now but there has been a lot of it (oh, it just started again)
gusts of wind here of 110 to 130 kph
in the coastal areas ferries are not sailing and people are advised to stay indoors because of falling trees and branches
I thought the worst was over but apparently not
now there is a traffic alarm: stay off the roads unless it's an emergency
Oh and of course the old time classic here: the pumps have to work extra hard to keep the polders from flooding

Ouch. I hope the building was empty.
It's still rather quiet here in the capital but it will apparently get much worse later today.
We had a guy dead (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6273773.stm) before 9am a tree branch went through his car window.
A train hit a fallen tree. Schools are closed.
and I think my bedroom window may get blown in at some point, not only is it big but it's above my bed and it's making really funny noises as the wind hits it :hyperventilate:

According to latest news, the storm will reach full force at 6pm ... when most people will be on their way home from work.
I think I will leave early today.

I just ventured out (on foot). It's pretty rough but doable. A street was cordoned off because of falling glass from a blown in window

Here's the wind map (http://www.xcweather.co.uk/) I use when I'm going to fly one of my gliders. Lots of red arrows at the moment. Hover your mouse over the arrows, and it shows you the recent wind speeds at that location.
I thought I had posted here, the tree fell away from my garden which, I am thankful for. Only Mr and Mrs Robin lived in it
Now though it looks as if two more fence pannells will come down.

It looks like Germany is hit pretty badly by the storm with winds of close to 200 km/h (about 125 miles/hour).
