While breaking ground on some new monstrosity in New York City, the Trump organization uncovered some human remains (http://www.thevillager.com/villager_194/talesfromthecrypt.html). Turns out, they're the bones of some really, really cool people.

The congregants of the church in the early 19th century who were interred in the vaults were not well off. The church admitted African-Americans to full communion as church members and had a multiracial Sunday school as early as 1822 — five years before New York abolished slavery — both of which are quite rare. According to the report, “The church’s fierce abolitionism was known almost from its inception.… Both the church’s reverend, Henry Ludlow, who was surrounded by rumors that he had conducted interracial marriage ceremonies, and former reverend, Samuel Cox, who had seceded from the church in 1825 to found the Laight Street Church, preached racial tolerance to their congregation, with Cox declaring that Jesus Christ was ‘probably of a dark Syrian hue.’

Apparently the developers don't even have a permit to build whatever piece of crap they want to build, plus there's the issue of what to do about the gravesite. Here's hoping the city tells Trump to fuck his hat.

This reminded me of that scene in Poltergeist where Jo Beth Williams slips and falls into the muddy hole that had been dug for her family's new pool, and all these dead corpses bobbed to the top of the water as she screamed.

PS: I also hate Donald Trump.

No Jimmy Hoffa, though, huh?

I'll bet this is the last time Trump runs out and hires an archeologist.

What happens if you build a skyscraper over a graveyard of forward-thinking folks?

 I don't think abolitionist graveyards have quite the same vengeful powers as Indian graveyards. Unfortunately. 'Cause I wouldn't mind seeing Trump haunted within an inch of his toupee.

Yet.

I think he must have been forced to. The article is a bit vague, but I suspect there's some kind of regulation regarding historical finds.

Harriet Tubman comes to your penthouse and kicks your ass every night.

I know here if you build something (a building, road, railway whatever) you have to have an archeologist around, it is a European law, Treaty of Malta I think.
Every time they dig a hole here something comes up anyway.

I think in the States it's up to local laws. The archaeologist mentions a "land use review" procedure which apparently Trump and/or the city did not follow in this case.

The Donald: Who are you?

Ghost: They call me Dred. What's up, partner?

AFAIK, there are Federal and state laws regarding the preservation of such sites found during government projects (highways, public buildings etc...) but they don't apply to private construction. Municipalities may have stricter laws however.

However, there are laws against desecrating graves which might apply.

Not as exciting as Donald Trump, but right here in Augusta they found a bunch of slaves' remains when they were digging up the land to build another residential subdivision. They were kind enough to put a little marker and memorial up, and build the road around it, so when you enter the Jones Creek subdivision you get to drive past a miniature cemetary/gravesite thingie right in the median of the road for some reason that is not apparent unless you know the story.

There is a casino here and when they were building it they found some Roman ruins, so they built the casino around it. It is inside the building now and you can see it through the window from the outside.

Was "Trump bones" supposed to sound like "trombones"?

Cuz it keeps making me think of that.
