That's Corona and Shake, for those of you who don't read the Arcade news (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/arcade.php?). I was very surprised to see Corona had snagged Shake's long-held Balloon Hunter title (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/arcade.php?do=scores&name=balloonhunter), but not so surprised to see Shake get it right back. I say we egg them on. :plotting:

C'mon Corona, you weren't just a one hit wonder, were you? Shoot them balloons! :fencing:

Balloon hunting is a very difficult sport, requiring the kind of talent and skill I simply was not born with and have little hope of developing; so it is a great pleasure to watch athletes such as Corona and Shake battle it out with fine, floaty rubber and sharp, pointy bits.

Mostly I just play that game 'cause it's so freaking relaxing, though. Look at beermat -- you try and catch these freaking beermats, getting more and more drunk every time you try, with a 60-second time limit with the music going BOOMTHUDBOOMTHUDBOOMTHUDBOOMTHUD. Oh, the stress. Now, balloon hunter -- you laze around and shoot balloons to a backdrop of pleasant piano music, no time limit, no nothin'. It's great.

Let me just start by saying that I was shocked that the title had fallen; and somewhat convincingly at that. Yes, I did go get it right back, and with an effort so as to be a message in and of itself, a very fine effort if I do say so myself. Then I come to check things out today only to see I'd been bested yet again! :eek:

I tried a few times before work intervened again with no success. Sometimes the arrow seems to go through the balloon, but no 'POP'! I did break another level, at least for me, which was 89 points on a single arrow (75 for the first and 14 for the 2nd)!

All in all, I'm really surprised it held on so long, since it's really not that hard a game. I mean, at once I held at least the 20 top scores. But, it's still not that hard, and I can see 4k falling before too long.

Some may recall that I used to have, "I am THE Balloon Hunter" as my custom title. I took the initiative to remove that because it seemed as if no one else was playing, so it didn't mean as much.

So yeah, I don't have the title at the moment, but it's just a matter of time! :yup:

Well, I just tried it out and got 155 points. I don't think anyone need fear me.

Yeah, and I didn't even beat it by much ... and then I get smacked down severly. 6799! Holy shit! I don't know if I have the patience to get up there.

Ya got me thinking, though ... I don't know of any tricks per se, in the game. I mean, if you can hit two balloons with one arrow, the second one gets a significantly higher score. That trend does not extend to hitting 3 balloons with one arrow, though (something which I've done on occasion).
