I've purchased scratch-off tickets more than once or twice and a lotto ticket or two in my lifetime, so I said "once or twice". I didn't see 'sometimes' at first, but even that sounds like it's more frequent than it is.

Once or twice for me too, although I've thought I should buy a ticket whenever the jackpot got huge.

I'll buy a powerball or a scratch off every now and then, if I have a single dollar in my change, and I think of it.

I pick up a scratch-off maybe once every couple of months. I'll play the big game when the jackpot gets huge, but usually only buy one ticket. The most I ever bought was 5 tickets for powerball. The most I've ever won was $25 on a Virginia scratch-off.

Poll is coming...

I play/buy the tickets very infrequently--twice a year was the honest choice.

But if you'd asked 'What would do you do with the money if you'd won'--- that's a far more thought provoking question.

I am glad you have seen the light with regards to private polls. :happydance: I buy lotto tickets only occasionally.

But quite a cliché question, don't you think? :P

but its a fun game to play, i play lotto very rarely. i dont buy scratch offs at all, i just buy one quickpick on the the megamillions, and then i view it more like buying a chance to play the "what would i do with the money if i won game"

It can be fun.

I used to somewhat regularly play Power Ball when there was a big jackpot. But the odds of winning are so huge (1 in 121 million) that it just seemed a waste of money. So I looked at the odds of the smaller prize games and decided that I wouldn't mind winning $1000 a week for the rest of my life and the odds on win for life are much better than Power Ball.

So now I play win for life when I get the hankering, which is rare these days but I bought a ticket this weekend just for the hell of it and I would have bought more if I had won anything.

I also all but voluntarily pay just for the privilege of "what will I do with it all?".

But I also know personally that people do win, my uncle did (about 1mil€). Although I know the odds are astronomical, it just CAN happen, and at times that is something that keeps me going.

Oh people do win. My mom used to work for some lotto winners, but keep that under your hat. :quiet:

With 0:1,100,000,000 odds you don't win at all. That's what keeps me dropping a dollar on a Powerball ticket now and then. Besides, here in Oklahoma almost half the money goes into the schools.

Yeah, I have used the "it goes to charity" explanation to justify it to myself as well. ;)

It's like they say...if you don't play, you can't win. With that in mind, I try to buy a Powerball and a state lottery ticket for each of the bi-weekly drawings. I figure that $200 a year isn't very much money, and I enjoy daydreaming about winning. There's a drawing today, so I'll stop at a gas station on my way home to give them my $2 donation.

Ahh. Simple. I have no problem revealing my choice in voting in the poll. My objection is to have the choice to divulge my vote taken from me via having a poll who's results are a public record. With the exception of the smilie polls; I feel that all polls should be private.

Occasionally.

While I have on occasion bought tickets for two draws in a row, I might go 6 months between purchases. Ordinarily the tickets sit unchecked in my purse for week upon week.

Along with stamps, lottery tickets are something I prefer to get only from my local corner shop. These things cost the same anywhere, so I get them from there so that I'll never be denied the convenience of grabbing a bottle of milk from just over the road.

While I'm in there - for my milk or whatever - it's more than occasionally that I'll see the server greet the person at the counter and go over to the lottery scratch card container right away. So, some people sure play regularly.
