I wasn't sure where to put this, I just wanted to warn anyone that might feed their dogs this.
We usually feed our dogs Iams but we ran out and just grabbed a bag of Pedigree small breed. Both our dogs got very very ill this week and almost died. I am CERTAIN it was the dog food, these are dogs that are indoor dogs and do not have contact with other dogs. I also work with canine viruses and vaccines and I know this was not a virus they caught. After taking away the dog food they have almost completely recovered.
The lot number of our dog food was 640GLKKMF. I know Pedigree has had recalls in the past, I believe in 2004. I will be writing the company today to inform them.
I just wanted to warn anyone that this might apply to. I was so heartbroken I almost lost my babies :(

Oh crap, biochemgirl. That's horrible. I vaguely remember a more recent dog food recall, like just a few months back. I can't remember if it was Pedigree brand, though. Let me see if I can find a news story about it.
I'm so glad your babies pulled through. :badday:
ETA: I was thinking of the aflatoxin-tainted Diamond dog food in late 2005. http://www.heraldonline.com/109/story/11674.html.
While searching for it I came across another very recent story about Beneful from Purina (http://www.itemonline.com/local/local_story_031234456.html?keyword=topstory) having possibly caused the death of several dogs. The DoggyBling (http://doggybling.com/inthenews.php) website mentioned in the article seems to collect info from dog owners and the companies. Perhaps you could email them asking if they've heard anything about recent problems other dog owners have had with Pedigree.

I appreciate it liv, I'm trying to do some research and see what other dog foods have been recalled.
Here's some pics of my babies:

And Papi, I got him when Malloch was deployed, he really is my "baby":

Oh wow Meiko was so teeny tiny! What breed of dog is she? Clearly Papi is a Papillion. Their ears just slay me. :aww:
Check my edit above, bcg.

She's a toy rat terrier. I believe now she is up to a huge four pounds and I think that's about as big as she will get. Don't let the size fool you she is incredibly destructive!
Yup Papi is a Papillion hence my clever name :giggle: Those Papillions are SO smart.
I so appreciate the links liv! You rock!

I think all terriers are required by law to wreak havoc inversely proportional to their size. :giggles: I love how saucy and proud Papillions are. The Papillion who won Westminster a couple of years ago walked around like he owned the world, I swear.
Here's (http://www.dogforums.com/?gclid=CIzayYjCkooCFSQzSgodxwqThg) the biggest dog forum I could find. I looked around but didn't see anything pertinent. Still, you might want to post there to see if anyone else has had issues and just hasn't posted about them yet.

You're right, Papi has his little pillow he sits on and he just looks so regal :giggle:
I am registering and posting as we speak. Thanks so much ;)

i know several people who feed their dogs nothign but raw meat. a mix beef liver and the cheaper cuts of meat, and they are quite healthy dogs.
as one guy says, if I can't cook it and eat it, it isnt fit for my dog.

Canidae really has all the good stuff, but when I was feeding it, both my dogs suffered from diarrhea. Back to Natural Balance (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/).
Re: Dingfod's link to raw foods, there's a strong following for it these days. Gotta watch out though. No matter how careful you are about the quality and freshness, if your dog chokes on an organic zucchini while you aren't watching, they are just as dead. :sadcheer:
How are your pups doing now, biochemgirl?

Wow. Rex eats 25 pounds of Pedigree a week. It's the only kind he'll eat.
