Dimebag Darrell Abbott, former Pantera guitarist, was shot and killed during a concert by some guy who just walked on stage and started shooting. Three fans were also shot and killed. Story here (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory?id=315390). :(

A gunman charged onstage at a nightclub and opened fire on the band and crowd, killing top heavy metal guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott and three other people before a police officer shot him to death, authorities said.

The gunman had a hostage in a headlock and appeared to be preparing to kill him when the officer fired, police spokesman Sgt. Brent Mull said. The hostage escaped uninjured, Mull said.

Two other people were hospitalized. Police said one was in intensive care and the other stable.

Police identified the gunman as Nathan Gale, 25, of Marysville, 25 miles northwest of Columbus. Police said they had no information on a motive or any connection to Abbott or his band, the Texas-based group Damageplan.

Dammit.

So, I never liked heavy metal much at all. Never listened to it when I was a kid or anything. But then, one day a few years ago, my job was sucking the life right out of me, and I was pissed off and miserable. I came home one Friday, I think it was, and I was just squirming, and it hit me that I needed to listen to some loud, angry, monster-voice heavy metal of some type. But I didn't have any appropriate CDs, because I didn't like that stuff.

So I turned on the TV and just started switching channels around, and there, as thought I'd willed it into existence, was Pantera. It might have been the video for Revolution is my Name, but I'm not sure now.

So I got a couple of Pantera CDs, which I'd intended to keep under glass in case of emergency, but the Little Muffin stole them.

I still don't like heavy metal, but I love Pantera.

OK. I also like Motorhead a little bit, too.

I'm afraid I wouldn't know a Pantera song if it took a dump on my lap, but I remembered this post (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=15785#post15785) and the cool snake album cover with fondness.

It's just such a fucked up story. I'm amazed more people didn't die trampled trying to get the hell out of there.
