Er, okay. Since I live on the other side of the world to Hollywood and all, I kinda end up seeing movies a little later than most USAians.

But a few months ago I remember seeing a preview posted for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow in the cinema, and thought "That looks kinda cool". And then I saw a trailer online and thought "Mmmm, Nazi-bitch-eyepatched Angelina Jolie. I GOTTA see that." *quivver*

Just for kicks, my little sibling downloaded in and watched it on teh 'pooter, though the quality was really low and the sound was atrocious, and I didn't see much of it. From what I saw though, it looked okay to me then, but I don't have everyone's taste in movies, and I was thinking along the lines of "Well, it'll obviously look better on the big screen". And yeah, Big Robots = Always cool.

Anyway, my question is: has this been out in the US cinemas yet? If it has, did it bomb like I think it did? Just curious, because if it really bombed it may go straight-to-video here instead of having a cinema release and all, and I wanna know if I'm waiting for a cinema release for nothing.

It was an unexpected flop here, iirc. I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard it looked great but just didn't captivate. I seriously doubt it'll go straight to video anywhere, though. It's just too big a movie for that.

It could have been good but I thought the acting was really bad. The special effects really looked poor in places to.(GE animals and parachutes etc.) I didn't like the color/sepia tone/black and white/fuzzness to it. They should have gone with full color or black and white or straight sepia tone; and no damn fuzzyness. That took away from the movie to me.

I thought it was ok. There's not enough of the eye-patch wearing Angelina Jolie for you to see it on that account, imo. The story is ok, and the effects were ok, and it plays like a 1930's movie feels when you're 10. Unfortunately, unlike many actual movies from 1930, it doesn't really matter if you're over 10 to get everything. IMO.

I make no sense when describing things.

The poor picture quality you saw was probably about as good as I saw in the theater. I came out of it disappointed, after all the buildup and hoopla, I thought there was going to be something to see. The story was weak, the acting so-so, and there was minimal character development, I just didn't really care about any of these characters. Actually, the "Mysterious (Asian) Woman" was more interesting than anyone else in the movie. To me it didn't appear to have that feel of a movie from the 1930s, it was more like the feel of a movie poster from the 1930s.

Also, why must obviously pregnant actresses be in films where they have to hide their pregnancy? First Zeta-Jones in Intolerable Cruelty, now Paltrow in this junkheap of a film. There's only so much that can be done with costuming and camera angles.

I realize I'm probably going to draw some fire for that, flame on, I've donned my asbestos lined undershorts plus I'm keeping a bottle of water handy, just in case.
