View Full Version : Happy Sunday Paper Day!

If you say it out loud like you're reenacting a Japanese commercial, it's even more fun:
Happy Sunday Paper Day!
We've had this tradition for years and years. I get up on Sunday morning and lounge until I hear the faint, "Helloooo...." from the bedroom. Then I bring in the fat Sunday paper and her coffee. I pour myself a fresh mug and join her. The cats slowly come in until all four are on the bed with us (actually, usually three and the weird old lady 'Sad Sack' in the closet). Then we spread the paper out and lounge, read, and drink our java with our crazy bedtime hair and jim-jams. More enjoyable than it sounds, I assure you.
I double-dog dare you to try it out.

I do something similar, except imagine me alone and replace "Sunday paper" with "Internet pornography".

More enjoyable than it sounds, I assure you.I dunno 'bout anyone else, but that lovely snapshot of your morning is just about my idea of 'perfect'. The real pleasures of life.

Sounds delightful. The coffee is already made, but I have to go out and get the Sunday paper, gut and bone it for the funday sunnies, and take a cup of joe and the funday sunnies to the throne room for meditation. After that, we coalesce about the kitchen table for brekkies and then retire to the bed with the rest of the paper and lounge about...ahem.

It is again HSPD! I think it'll remain quiet in the front room for another hour or so. My wife is very good at using Sunday morning for as much sleep as possible. I'm on my second cup of coffee and am reading the stories on digg. (http://www.digg.com/) I've even logged on this time so I can digg a couple of stories (I don't normally do that). My only goal this morning, internet-wise, is to get that big :M: on this, my one-year anniversary at :ff: .
I hope everybody else has a great day!

Well, our pond is right outside the bedroom window so we just listen to the waterfall. Lately, though, we've had the TV on. I made the mistake right before my last trip of moving our old one into the bedroom. I don't like having television in the bedroom but she wanted it for while I was out of the country... which reminds me (off to 'Member News')...

eww to :tv: noise :nuhuh:
Javaman
05-27-2007, 03:06 PM
I think the only appropriate TV for Sunday morning is 'CBS Sunday Morning' Growing up, we used to always have it on (with Charles Kuralt?). I loved the trumpet piece at the beginning and, although I'm a fan of Wynton, his new take on it just doesn't feel right when I hear it. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about it. It just doesn't make my brain happy.

Aha. I just find tv noise irritating and distracting as a norm.:damnemo:

Well, someone has decided to start weed-eating already this morning so I'm pretty sure I'll need to get the wife's coffee started. Man, I'm not sure I'm going to get to 1000 posts today. :(

Javaman

There's math involved and I always get confused. I deal with numbers all day long and I still screw up the countdown.

I spend a buck fifty on the crossword puzzle every Sunday. And if that's done early, I'll do the sudoku and the crosscryptic, or whatever it's called.
Thise are done throughout the day, though. I'll go through the sports page, read the majority of the baseball page.
The rest I flip through and read what catches my eye. For the most part, if you're keeping track of a particular story, you know what's going on just by reading the headlines.
The sale ads I might go through once in a while, or if I'm thinking about something in particular.
I read Dear Abby sometimes. In the funnies, I'm partial to For Better or Worse and Zits.

I know exactly what you mean. When I was a kid, every single Sunday morning was devoted to Charles Kuralt. I always like the various suns. I was disappointed when Kuralt left, but Charles Osgood is just fine too.

We don't have any Sunday papers here :(
It's kinda weird, we are pretty much a post-Christian country, at least more than most and certainly more than the US, but shops are still closed on Sundays and no papers appear.
The Saturday papers will keep you busy for a week though.

Well, the cool thing today is that it is a holiday and sometimes the newspaper company blesses us with a free paper! Then we get to have Happy Monday Paper Day! :w00t: Except, it's nearly 8:00 A.M. and I don't see the paper in the driveway. :damn:
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The worst thing about the newspaper on Sunday Morning is that, by the time I actually open it, I've been reading news on the internet for upwards of three hours. A good portion of it is redundant. I think I only really look forward to "Non Sequitur." (http://www.gocomics.com/nonsequitur/)

Hi Javaman! :hai: We don't have a SPD at my place. :shrug:Aww... Really, the paper is just an excuse to be lazy in bed on a Sunday morning. Since I read most of the news on-line, not a whole lot in the paper is new but I enjoy it anyway. For some reason, all three cats jump up on the bed with us and it is a true loungefest. The only thing that spoils it is the coffee refill time but that takes only moments.
Perhaps next week I'll try the Super Happy Sunday Paper Day which involves unfolding the sleeper couch in the living room and getting a good fire going. I'll have to get busy and split some more firewood, though.

I'm not watching the game today, except for however much of the end I have to watch to make sure I don't miss the House "event" that comes on after. I will be switching between the Law and Order marathon and the Puppy Bowl. Also I will be getting my house ready for the movers.
That is after I finish my gallon of coffee, in bed, in my PJs, while browsing the forums. Because it is Happy Lazy Coffee Sunday Day!
