Oh, you'll find there are many around here that are not afraid to post thier pics.
I'm not one of them, however. There are no digital pics of me that I know of anywhere, and no reasonably recent ones of any description whatsoever. I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's meal time, anyway.

I have a scan from about 3 or 4 years ago on my pc which I'll post. The lighting's all weird 'cos my face is lying on a scanner bed. Can't remember why, exactly, anymore. Foolin' around, I s'pose.
I thought I had another pic here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. It was a proper photograph, and everything. :(

GW, you pic reminds me of a guy I worked with in London. We used to work in a chain of secondhand record stores around Notting Hill Gate and Camden, and he was always so cool to work with. He and I were so naughty - we'd disappear to the pub for hours playing pool and smoking hash in the downstairs bar of The Swan - a crazy pub fo'sure. Our boss would eventually have to send someone over to get us before we got too schickered. Fortunately our boss was nuts and had a soft spot for 'rebels', so our jobs were secure regardless. He liked us. :D
Heheh. Thanks for the fun memory. :)

Beth, with your hair pulled back under the cap and no makeup I think you look about 15 years old. I say light your makeup kit on fire.
Noodlenader, I don't know who is cuter in that pic. Then again, why compare? You and kitty are both enchanting.
Godless Wonder, I think the larger picture is better than the avatar because it's so much better lit you can actually see your face. I think you'd look great with short hair, btw. You must have been growing it out for ages.
Nex, you're lovely, particularly the shape of your eyes and eyebrows, but the pic washes you out so much I can't see your nose!

I was stalking bugs, with my nifty Nikon swively camera, in my front yard one evening this summer. I swiveled it too far back and caught this pic of me. I'm not sure, but I think its me, but in reverse (or was I upside down?) And my hair was wet because I'd just gotten out of the shower. Anyway, I thought it was kind of cool, so I took a couple more.

Great pics everyone, we have a damn good looking group here.
I don't have any recent pics on this 'puter...Frankie has em all. This is us at our company Christmas party at the Beverly Hills hotel a few years back. Eyes and smiles are always awesome to connect with bodiless and soundless voices on the net.
Me, I'm a terrible critic, particularily of myself and particularily in photos, I can always find something wrong with any pic of myself. I'll see if I can get some faultless photos over the holidays, wish me luck. :D What good is being photogenic if you never like any pic you ever take? Well, I like a few but it would take fifteen pics of me to say, "this is what I look like." I look different in every picture, you could entitle them each and say, "The Mother," "The Child", "The Vulnerable," "The Bitch," "The Imp," etc. :D and none would just say, "Me."

Oh, man...ain't that always the way! As we look at ourselves in pics, we always look so one-dimensional to ourselves - but when we look at others, especially people we only know in text, we see their shine. I call it the straight hair/curly hair syndrome. Or I did just then anyway. :chin:

Short answer: As little as I can get away with.
Long answer: I work as an inspector for NCDOT. We administer contracts for road building and improvement projects. I work with the contractor's supervisory staff to make sure that the work is performed according to the plans and specifications. The job is a mix of record keeping, materials sampling and testing, alongside of a lot of observation.

Thanks. It's the glasses that do it - although they aren't really the right shape...
I know where they are in that photo, atop Hogwarts Castle.
Actually, no :) but we did go there too...you might recognize this if you saw the scene in HP I where Harry flies for the first time to rescue Neville's remembrall. This is the only castle I've seen with figures like this on top of its battlements; and you can see those in the movie.
http://www.geocities.com/mildenhall@sbcglobal.net/photos/aug04/images/IMG_1420.jpg
HP III was filmed somewhere else; I love all those beautiful slopes in it. visually HPIII is the prettiest, I think.
All of the movies have Glenfinnan Viaduct in (that huge railway viaduct the train to Hogwarts goes over), which I saw years ago when I went on vacation to Scotland with my then-fiance, now-husband. (Or that's what the viaduct looks like, anyway)
Helen
Helen, I showed my kids the vacation pics you posted. They both recognised the castle from the film, somehow. Anyway, I love that pic of you and your son and the backdrop is great.

There's just something about round faces and slightly wild beards that brings out the maternal instinct in me, I reckon.
Oh. While I was looking for that Little Muffin picture, I found what I used to think was a pretty bad picture of me, until one day, I saw this one picture some guy took of me and the ODB where we totally look like Punch and Judy, if Judy had a big wattle and no eyebrows. So now, I figure this picture is probably pretty good and I just didn't know it before.

Yeah, well, those pictures are a year or year and a half old. As I'm sure you're painfully aware, since that time, my eyebrows fell out and I grew a wattle. You can ask that guy--Wayland or Walford or Wayne or something--who took that one picture of that!
Oh, wait. I meant: Thanks, youse guys.

Alright, here I am during the Habitat blitz builid in Mexico. It's about as recent a pic as I have at the office. Had to crop out my wife, as she doesn't like having her pic online.
I'm not terribly photogenic, but I'm pretty comfortable with this pic. The shadowing caused by the hat and the dust mask covering my chin(s) obscure it just enough for me to post it online.
I'm not terribly comfortable with my physical appearance, but the important thing is that I'm working on losing the weight.

Ha ha! I have Paintshop open, so I just copied your picture in, adjusted the brightness, and I SAW YOU, ELDAR! I SAW YOU!
HA HA! You can't fool me!
You're even cuter with the brightness and contrast adjusted. If you just cut and paste the picture in and adjust the brightness and contrast both to around 30%, you can pretty much negate the shadow.
Everybody go look at Eldar!
I'm not terribly comfortable with my physical appearance, but the important thing is that I'm working on losing the weight.
Well, then, you should have worn earmuffs. The only thing wrong with you is that your earlobes appear to be attached, which proves that you're a devil. The rest of you is cute, though. Which is all too often the case with devils.
Oh, crap. I just looked at the other pages I hadn't seen, and now I'm mad at freemonkey. I thought she was just a nice middle-aged lady, but now I don't like her anymore because she's all hot and stuff.

On the one hand, l have grown to love lisarea even more. Her wit never fails to make me laugh like a mentally deficient goon.
On the other hand, I'm now self-conscious about my ears, which I'd never been before.
I could solve the problem by re-directing my displeasure at all the other hot-looking posters (much as lisarea has done with regards to freemonkey), but then I'd end up hating just about all of you...including lisarea...which pretty much leaves me right where I started.
A vicious circle, indeed.

See, though. There's a sort of counterintuitive thing about camera flashes. You'd think that they'd highlight shit like that, but if they're bright enough, they actually disguise them. I look a little more like Richard Nixon and a little less (at least I like to tell myself) like Mrs. Potato Head than the photographs might indicate. Plus, the flashbulbs change my boring hair to different and exciting new colors. It's like cameras see kind of generic brown hair, and they're all like, "Oh, man, not THIS shit again!" and they just make an executive decision and turn it dark brown or red or something.
I used to like that about cameras. Until that guy, Warthog or Wassily or "Whatever," illustrated so memorably how that kind of thing can be turned around on a guy.
Oh, and Eldar? Maybe you could try using some contouring shadow on your ears--sort of paint little triangles right where they connect, to give the appearance of detachment. Ladies do this kind of thing to create the illusion of cheekbones and things like that sometimes. Or else, you could grow some kind of dog-ear hairstyle, where you would have long pieces on the sides like a basset hound or something, to cover them up. And while you're waiting for it to grow out, you could just get a hat with earflaps or maybe just a Loverboy-style headband that you could wear kind of low on your head.

Actually, the Little Muffin picture is from a year or two ago. He's a lot hairier than that now. He's got a regular Taliban thing going on now.
Unfortunately, though, both my scanner and my camera are haunted right now, so I don't have anything more recent. However, I made my mom some refrigerator magnets of the Little Muffin because she moved out of state and misses him, so I just used Paintshop to update them a little.
This is one of my efforts at age-enhancing the Little Muffin.
Edit: Sorry! I accidentally uploaded the humongous version!

Can't grow facial hair, huh? I didn't shave at all until I was 25 and then it was only a couple times a week. I didn't have to shave daily until I was about 34-35. Then I finally reached puberty, now I cannot stop the shit from growing everywhere but my head. I'm still not nearly as hairy as my dad, who had to shave again in the evening if he was going out, he had one of those George Clooney 5 o'clock shadow things going on all the time. Not me, I tried growing a goatee a couple months ago, it's still pretty darn sparse. Maybe one of these days I'll grow up. ................ Naw, it'll never happen.

Oh wow, what a fine looking bunch we have here. The women are all so ..... how do I say this, so sumptuous and so damned intelligent and competent looking. The men handsome and so damned ...... again words fail me .... oh yes so reliable looking. All of you are people I'm so very proud to know even if it, unfortunately is from afar.
Me ? well I have always been more than just a little camera shy. I don't even have a picture of myself. Women have always carried them off. I really don't think I'm much to look at, but what the hell is my opinion compared to the opinions of thousands of women.
Perhaps , just perhaps I'll get a digital camera some day and then possibly I will post a picture. I want one so that I can post creature pictures. The best I can do is to describe how I look. I was somewhat shocked upon peering at everyone's photos to see that I almost have a twin right here on the board. Up until ten years ago Godless wonder and I would have been mistaken for at least brothers if not twins. I have aged a hell of a lot recently unfortunately. I'm an even six foot. I weigh 180 LB. I've weighed that since my early twenties. I always had very dark hair until very recent years. Now its very gray. I have a small well trimmed beard and mustache. My beard is now snow white. Guess thats about it.
I recognize several of you from photos on other boards. I was really surprised to see that my wonderful friend Lisa could pass as my granddaughter. ya know I never would have found this board had not Lisa feared for my health over at IIDB and so invited me to try my luck here. The political threads were just away too much for some who had two heart attacks in a row, and yet my indignation drew me into the damnedest arguments there. Without exaggeration Lisa very well may have saved my life.
Oh yes godfry, I recognized you instantly as I saw your photos from your trip throughout Asia and parts of the former Soviet Union. By the way I was very ill at the time and so I want to thank you for bringing me so much pleasure during those dark days with your commentaries over at Gurdur's site earlier in the year. I want to thank you all for just being the people you are. Your a great bunch, every one of you, and please forgive this damned old curmudgeon if my sarcasm sometimes overcomes my better judgment. I try not to post when I'm ill. If some days my grumpiness and cutting judgementalism seems a bit much just say to yourselves, " old Toad must be having a rough day, his sanity will return soon."

Yes Sweetie, looks really don't make the person so much as things like sincerity, and other such characteristics. As a man I cannot speak for women, well I mean in what some women may or not find attractive in men.
However the most attractive, dare I say, sexy , attribute in any woman is the quality of her brain, her sincerity, her refusal to play mind games or to appear to be the helpless maiden, batting her eyes, etc. I really don't suppose the criteria for women can be that different.
I'm sorry because I really had something to say here, alas my brain is rapidly winding down, so I better quite before I make a damned fool of myself.
I guess what I'm trying to say is its character, not image that turns my crank, and always has.

Does anyone else have a hard time thinking of the great apes as "animals"? They're just so damn human. Was that 65 zone on a "highway that comprises a part of the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways and have not fewer than four lanes"?

The speeds listed rarely go under the 15 MPH limit. Occasionally on 75 or 0n I-4 peeps will legally go 40 (http://etd.lib.fsu.edu/theses/available/etd-12032003-150846/) on a 65-70 MPH interstate road, but the minimum speed is listed. Other than that, on regular roads, from what I understand, 15 mph under is considerred illegal. I've known people ticketed and I was pulled over for going under on a back road- I had hazzards on and was in car distress at the time.
Anyway, whayt I am talking aboot is people who pull out in front of a driver going the legal limit and mantaining a speed well under the limit. I have seen many crashes over this and about highway systems that post a minimum speed but people-in a nontraffic block situation- drive extremely slow. It does cause a hazzard. Normally I do drive right around the limit, I almost slammed into a pole the other day because a person from Michigan pulled out in front of me and did not speed up. It happens all of the time and most peeps I talk to around here can give an earfull about those with Yank tags.

Are you from around here? Our interstate and sometimes highway signs list the minimum speed by law.

Minimum speeds on Interstate and other limited access highways are usually posted at about 20-30 mph less than the speed limit, like 45 mph for a 65 mph or a 70 mph highway. I've seen some that were 40 mph on a 65 mph speed limit highway. I don't recall ever seeing minimum speed limits any lower than that or minimum speed limits anywhere other than multi-lane limited access highways. On two lane highways, where farm tractors and other slow moving equipment share the same roadways, minimum speed limits don't make any sense at all.

Beth: Are you from around here? Our interstate and sometimes highway tags list the minimum speed by law.
I was a FL resident from 1991 to 2000. Oldsmar. I even did time at USF for a few semesters. :)
Most states have such minimum speeds listed on the interstate highways, but I have not yet seen one less than 40 mph in any of my driving between the cities of Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, Boise, Atlanta, Memphis, St. Louis, Denver, Cheyenne, Birmingham, and Tampa (just to name a few :)).
Nor I have ever heard of the 15-under-the-limit law in any state, and I have had driver's licenses in South Carolina, Idaho, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Florida. If I'm wrong about such a law, then I really need to be corrected, is why I'm asking. :)
It was in my FLA Handbook, but that was many years ago. I can find nothing online right now, but I have been pulled over just for gong 15 mi under with no one around me I only got out of the tickets because it was close to home. I know many police officers, they all claim it is law, unless the flow of traffic is slower...the flow of traffic can well exceed 70 mph on 75 and on 275, they generally do not single out cars going with the flow, even if the flow is 90 mph.

Lady Cop maybe? Ronin?
I no longer own a Handbook and I don't often debate cop IRL like I might online. don't think Ronin is a Florida cop, either. From what I am getting from PDL handbooks is that driving under the limit is illegal. Driving under min. interstate speed or highway min speed 40 mph (http://etd.lib.fsu.edu/theses/available/etd-12032003-150846/), is illegal. In my particular county, I do believe traffic ordinaces are exactly as I said.

Beth is right except it doesn't state a certain amount below the speed limit. From the Florida Driver's License Manual (http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/handbooks/English/ch_203.html#anchor164839):
Driving Too Slowly is also Against the Law
Drive with the flow of traffic (within the speed limit). You should not drive so slowly that you block other vehicles moving at normal, safe speeds. You can be issued a ticket for driving too slowly.
Edit: Oklahoma has this wording too, but it only applies to the minimum speed limits on Interstates.

That is similar to what is in the statute that I posted previously, which has legal precedent over the manual in any case. The question is, how much is "too slowly"? What are the legal precedents for issuing a ticket for going too slow?
From Florida statute 316.183:
(5) No person shall drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation or in compliance with law.
No mention of any specific number, such as 15 under. It seems you can drive as slowly as you want as long as you are not blocking or impeding other traffic. Can you really get a ticket for driving too slowly if you are the only one on the road?
Also, according to that same statute:
(4) The driver of every vehicle shall, consistent with the requirements of subsection (1), drive at an appropriately reduced speed when:
(a) Approaching and crossing an intersection or railway grade crossing;
(b) Approaching and going around a curve;
(c) Approaching a hill crest;
(d) Traveling upon any narrow or winding roadway; and
(e) Any special hazard exists with respect to pedestrians or other traffic or by reason of weather or highway conditions.
How much is an "appropriately reduced speed"? Are there any court cases setting some kind of legal precedent?
Enquiring minds wanna know®. :)

Thanks, you're sweet. When I look at that picture all I can think is omg NOSTRILS! and incipient double chin!
Our wedding definitely fell into the "weird bohemian" category. We got married at Burning Man (http://www.burningman.com) 2003. That's this guy (http://images.burningman.com/index.cgi?image=16456&results=20314,16456,15849,16230,16198,15850,15844,15843,15842,15827,15824,15825,15574,15633,15624,15590,15610,15608,15606,15602&ord=2/110&skip=0&q_photog=&q_category=&q_keyword=the%20man&q_year=2003) in the background. We were looking at our wedding as the equivalent of a not-secret elopement to Vegas, but all our friends were there, and my dad and brother besides. It was great fun. Our friends supplied the food and music, and another friend (ULC minister, natch) performed the ceremony. The hubby and I met at Burning Man and it seemed appropriate to get spliced out there.
In retrospect I am extremely happy that we didn't do the foofy-dress, country-club, DJ-playing-the-Macarena, going-into-massive-debt thing. It's never appealed to me; I've been to a number of such events and they all turned out to be pretty unmemorable. I don't think anyone will ever forget ours, though -- when we were saying our vows a small plane dumped a dozen skydivers with rainbow-colored parachutes right over our heads, and they had all landed by the time the "I do"s rolled around. So our wedding was attended by a bunch of curious drop-ins (literally!) Then there were the fire performers who crashed the reception... it was great.
Another key one is does Princess Leia know that you raid her wardrobe?
You know, I didn't even realize that I was wearing Princess Leia's dress until one of the aforementioned skydivers pointed it out. But I kinda was. I'm glad I decided to do just one bun instead of two...

The slow snowbirds are probably OLD...sorry for the emphasis. They sure as hell don't drive on the 401 through Ontario. You get run over by everything on the road if you are going less than 115 (km/hr = approx. 70 mph), and the average speed is 125 mostly (more or less 80 mph). And the speed limit is 100 (60 mph). Go figure. Cops give you 20 km. and then only stop people if it's not too dangerous - ie. not through the city.
I've never seen the sign that sends all the old people to Florida...but it must be there somewhere.
I have to drive through Toronto tomorrow. Wish me luck. My Corolla rocks a bit at 125 but its better than finding yourself under a semi.

Good luck, bobeh!
Oh yeah, Rev, thanks too for trying to get this thread back on-topic with your photo. Although, now that there's a gallery, I'll bet this thread doesn't see much more action. I just (yesterday) posted a handful of pics in various parts of the gallery.
