There are some things which will mobilise the people of California to take action.
If you're a Governor who triples the annual car registration fee, and we will ruthlessly kick you out of office and replace you with an actor.
If you dare say anything against illegal immigration, there will be masses of persons on the streets (The current LAPD saga from 01MAY is interesting)
And, heavens forbid, if you lock up a famous blonde, there will be petitions and requests for leniency.

Quoting from the petition:
She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives
My God. I never realised it. For the 45 days that she's in jail, my life will become boring and mundane. I don't know how I'm possibly going to take it. I may be forced to end it all.
In the meantime, she treats her jail sentence caused by driving while banned with great seriousness.

Paris is my favorite celebrity.
"The last time I saw Paris, her heart was warm and gay,
No matter how they change her, I'll remember her that way."

According to D. Scarlatti's link (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,270666,00.html) in the Celebrity News thread, as well as the BBC link above, her fans wrote that petition. The Metro link above claims that she said it. Not that I give a shit, but ...
... but nothing. I just realized I really don't give a shit. But I went to all of that trouble to type the post and paste the link, so I'll hit the Post button anyway.

Try to be strong tanker...the good news is that if she doesn't shank anyone or start any riots she could qualify for early release and get out after 39 days served.

Didn't she make some kind of promise to retire from the public limelight?
Isn't her time up soon?
please, please, please...let her actually make good on it

No, no, no....It was in the June 20, 2005 Newsweek. Two years, it was supposed to be.
There are even countdown sites, like this one (http://blog.notruebill.com/?p=278).
I personally don't think she can do it. I believe she's an addicted media whore.

She provides the mindless Californians with a distraction while their country is stolen from under their feet.

We'll all be relegated to watching her internet sex video. :sigh:

Looks like she is getting off easy (like we didn't expect that):
Hilton will not, however, be reduced to repelling the sexual advances of other inmates in the showers or breaking rocks. During her time in the block containing "12 cells, each holding two people" and reserved for "celebrities, public officials, police officers, and other high-profile inmates", she'll be separated from most of the other lags.
So she's is a cell block catering to celebrities. Not only that but her 45-day sentence has already been cut in about half to 23-days and she hasn't served a day yet.
Authorities in California have confirmed that the highly-talented heiress has been awarded a "credit for good behaviour" on several grounds, including the rather marvellous fact that she "had appeared at her latest court hearing".
What a farce. (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/05/17/hilton_sentence/)
