... to all and to all a happy Saturday, however you spend/spent it. :nova:

My Saturdays are usually a little more low key than today was, but I got a lot done which means less to do tomorrow.

I was up at 5:45 am this morning :tired:, put my banking together :writing:, took three of my :catwalk:s to their yearly vet apt. for 8:00 am, went to the post office :mail2:, then to the drug store :meds:, then to the bank :money:, then to Wal Mart & Stop & Shop :cart:, then home where I did laundry :rinse:, opened my week's worth of mail :gotmail:, and paid my bills :user:. The most awesome part was that I was able to pay off two credit cards today! :w00t:

I do believe I'll sleep well tonight. :=)

That is awesome Shelli. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead of you as well. I wish my weekend was a fruitful as yours, but alas, just chaos which seems to be the norm around here these days.

Yeah, suppose to be studing, but will be cleaning house instead. The in-laws are coming over this afternoon and then I get my grandson late afternoon. So this day is shot to hell.....On a more positive note, it does feel like fall outside and everyone, including the horses, seems to be really happy about the weather change....

Pay off a credit card?? Wow, I can just dream of doing such a thing.....As for the rest of it I still need to :dusting:,:student:,:vacuum:and either I or someone in this household needs to :paintwall:that middle bedroom this week. As far as I know I am not traveling for a few days, but got a lot of stuff to do for the new class so, I guess it will be me...to figure out a time line to get the bedroom painted......

Successful Saturday, and it's not even noon! First I mailed a CD to my mother without the usual hassles that snail mailing seems to involve. Good start. Then went over to the local surplus store.

Last year I saw some flashing rear bike lights there for cheap, and only bought one for myself. Since then I've been kicking myself, because I often see students biking from the university at night with no lights on them or their bikes. I'd like to have some spares to carry around for such cases, but not at $15 a pop.

The surplus store didn't have any in their bike section. Crap. But I wandered around anyhow, looking at rusty WWII helmets and such, until I wandered through their pet section. And lo! Pet lights! Flashing red lights on keychains, suitable for hanging from a pet's collar. For only 99 cents.

Okay, so they're shaped like little bones. BFD! I bought 15, and now look forward to becoming the... Johnny Appleseed? Robin Hood? Smokey the Bear? ...of nighttime cycling safety.

To top it off, my middle daughter came along on the out-trip and we had a great time together. I put a Beatles CD in when we left the house, and after a minute she asked, "Could we listen to rock and roll instead? Like, Matchbox 20?"

Yeesh. :vomit:

Okay, it was on "Yesterday". Fair enough. But I kicked it ahead to "Paperback Writer" and "Daytripper" -- which she loved. By the return trip she made me play "All You Need is Love" three times.

It's Sunday now, but I had a productive Saturday, too.

I did my run outdoors, totally on impulse. I was walking to the fitness center to get back on the treadmill, and I thought it was so gosh darn pleasant out, there was no reason to trap myself indoors. It made my run a lot more hilly than I'm used to, but I enjoyed it a lot. I also ran into my buddy from work, who is moving in to my building. Small world!

Then I went to the Krogers and bought lots of healthy foods. :hungry:

Hrm.. today wasn't very happy. :nuhuh:

Woke up from a crappy, emotional, all too vivid dream with the migraine that I've almost gotten rid of for two days now. Bleh. :headache: When I got back from the bank and went to sit down in front of my puter with my bowl of cereal, I promptly spilled it all over my chair, the floor, and one dog. Good grief. And then found out that I'm majorly PMS'ing the hard way which is usually the only way, a nice big fat emotional tornado. :tornado: Oh yeah, that made my head feel soooo much better.

Hoping for a better tomorrow. :smashdr:

It is a recipe from Suriname :suriname: a former Dutch colony. When they became independent in the 1970s about half the population (500.000 people) decided to come here, so they have influenced the culture a lot.

The soup has chicken, hot peppers and bean sprouts in it too.

Oh, it says on the label it is Javanese :indonesia: Well, that's a former colony too and there are a lot of Javanese in Suriname too, so they probably introduced it there.

Hmmm, that sounds quite good actually!

I translated this recipe for you:

# 6 chicken leg pieces
# 6 table spoons chunky peanut butter (this could be tricky, Dutch and Surinamese peanut butter is salty rather than sweet as I understand American is)
# 1 à 2 tea spoons sambal oelek (could also be tricky, is an Indonesian pepper paste)
# 250 gram bacon bits (you can leave this out)
# 250 gram bean sprouts
# 2 tea spoons allspice
# 1 tablet of chicken bouillon cube
# 1 large onion, diced
# 1,5 liter water

Boil the chicken pieces in a large pan with 1/2 a liter of water, the chicken bouillon cube and the onion. Leave it to simmer for an hour until the meat falls from the bones. Take the chicken out, let it cool and cube the meat. Take a table spoon of the soup and stir the peanut butter and sambal thorugh it in a bowl and add it. Put the chicken meat and the bacon in the cooking pot. Taste the soup, if it's too hot add peanut butter, not hot enough add sambal. Add bean sprouts and allspice and simmer for 10 minutes.

The x-mas party was pretty good. Lotsa yummy foods and then we all exchanged gifts. We each brought a gift with a $20 cap on it and they were all put in a pile. Then we each picked a piece of paper with a number on it from a hat with #1 going first to pick and open a gift. #2 then picked and opened a gift and if he/she didn't like his/hers, he/she could take #1's gift, giving #1 his/her gift. #3 then picked a gift and if he didn't like the gift, he could take either #1 or #2's gift, giving that person his. And so it went down the line with each higher number picking a gift next and then having the choice of gifts of all those that came before his to take and leave his in the place of. Finally, when all the presents were opened, #1 then had the choice of ALL the gifts opened and giving his to that person in trade.

My husband opened an electric chocolate melter and melting chocolate and I opened a dancing motorcycle Santa singing "Born To Be Wilde" :santathrust:. :giggle: Neither one of us traded ours and no one took ours in trade. :phew:

Every year, I buy him a singing, dancing something for x-mas, so really, the :apresent: I opened ended up being his and the :apresent: he opened is ALL MINE! :chocohol:

I can has strawberries dipped in chocolate on Skype night now!
:tiggermonkey:

Also, now that I've decaffeinated which means no more chocolate, caramel chai tea for me because I can't find it in decaf, I can experiment with my new chocolate melter by mixing some melted chocolate with the decaf vanilla chai that I found. :hellyes:

For food there was...

Appetizers: :cheese:s, fruits, crackers, veggies, chips, dip, shrimps with cocktail sauce, salsa sauce with chips, kielbasa

Main meal: :turkey:, :ham:, mashed :potato:s, stuffing, baked ziti, meatballs, and an unknown item that I decided best left unknown. :stwitch:

Desert: Brownies, some white chocolate candy with stuff in it, and a weird :pineapple:  :applepie: with fluffy stuff on top and graham cracker crust that was actually quite yummy. :yum:

I had orange Poweraide for a drink. :pleased:

Yeah, a pool! What about the whole drought thing?

Not in our little corner of the world. Our water comes from an aquifer that flows from PNG, down under the Coral Sea along the East coast of Queensland, under Fraser Island, comes ashore near us where it is tapped and processed and the water that is left (lots) flows back out to sea eventually emptying into the Pacific Ocean east of Brisbane. Of course, there are no pipes connecting our water supply to the SE Queensland dams so our surplus isn't used.

Even without an independent source of water, pools are not forbidden in SEQ. Water saving measures do need to be incorporated into the pool area, but to prevent a whole section of the business community going bankrupt the government has allowed home owners to keep their pools.

OK, I had a completely different idea of where the drought actually was in Australia.
Only three maps later and I've got it.

Figures the pool industry would beat out farmers.

Right. It wasn't a one or the other scenario. And you'd probably be surprised how many farms aren't in the middle of cities where the majority of pools congregate. But if we ever do get a farm we'll be sure to tip the pool on it. That should keep one quarter of a paddock wet for, oh about two days.

Happy catshitsday to you to Shelli!

This morning I got up late and just made it to the bank before it closed. Then I played Travian. Then I laid down and took a nap. Then I talked to Mrs. KA for a while. Then she went to work. Then I ordered a new battery for my brush cutter that WON'T START DAMMIT and then I played Travian some more. Most recently I fed the dog and then drained the oil out of the Civic. Now I am going to go to the potstaw and get an oil filter and a better oil filter wrench. Then I am going to the YMCA.

I was going to go to work and get some work done, but I so don't feel like it so I am not going to.

All this prompted my next tangent which was to make a trip to my attic. It was like going shopping except that it was free. :chuckle:

Among other things, I ended up bringing down two big candles (one berry/mango candle in a big jar and another of an undetermined but nice scent, so big that it has three wicks) along with a yummeh blueberry candle and three small candles in different colored glass candle holders. :uncandle:

It's my husband's fault. :unnod:

I was following him and next thing you know he was getting way ahead of me, so I laid on the throttle to catch up and then I thought.. hey, I think I'm going rather fast.. then I looked at my gauge and I was going 100 mph already! :unshock:

Then I said.. WOOHOO!!! :unbounce: and revved it up to 105 and then he slowed down because the speed limit had gone down and we were entering a more trafficked area. :unsad:

VROOOOOOOM! :unundies:

I'm going to fish's house today to hot tub and see the remodel and meet the doggies and stuff. I think maddog is coming, too.A Happy Caturday, it was!

maddog, Ensign Steve and my friend Kim came up. They helped me out by hanging the crystal pieces back on lamps I inherited from my folks' house, so now my place is all sparkly bright again. The dogs were their usual overwhelming, poorly socialized selves, but Mojave did make an appearance late in the festivities and Flutter joined in some of the noise making.
:doggies: :bagcat: :flutter:

I fed 'em soup and sandwiches, champagne and tequila and I am glad they were the first of my little world to see the fresh paint and flooring in my house. We all enjoyed pics and stories from maddog's trip across the southwest (see some of her photos in the gallery). She had a couple of nice shots of viscousmemories from when she hung out with him and squian. I miss those guys! :deepsigh:

Hey!

I had a good day in the garden, then a nice nap, and followed with a night thunder storm, complete with lightening and thunder...a real rarity around these parts. If the whole "1001...1002..." count thing is anywhere near accurate, we had a strike just a half mile from the house. Waaaaaay kewl....

I just watched No Country For Old Men, and the fire truck and police sirens having been going off pretty steady since about 09:00 this morning, so my Caturday's taken a solemn turn.

Happy Meow Day! :meow:

I decided that I wanted to riding out to Danvers, Ma today, rather than drive.. before I realized that this was going to be a 2 1/2 hour ride in high speed & traffic areas including the Mass. Pike and also a stretch of Boston traffic. After he told me, he asked, "Are you sure you want to do that?" :?

:girlthink: (2 to 5 seconds)

Yeah, what the hell. It'll be a challenge.
:tiggermonkey:

He said, "Well, I think it's nuts and it's gonna be pretty spooky with the traffic and a little cold, but okay.. *laughs*.. "

I made it there and back alive!! :ovation:

Round trip, it was about 240 miles, of which most of it was ridden at 85 to 90 mph through medium to heavy traffic areas of two to four lanes. :shakemotorcycle:

I had to take a few deep breaths throughout and hummed whatever the last song was I heard before getting on the bike each time (we stopped a couple rest areas) to stay calm and focused. :chillpill:

All in all, it was awesome! :motorcycleglomp:

It's Caturday! :w00t:

We were away for Thanksgiving with the in-laws, left Wednesday night and came back Friday evening, and poor little Evil Eye kitteh forgot who we were. He hid under the bed and wouldn't come out and when he did come out, he ran away when I tried to pick him up. (He eventually figured it out.)
