So I need a little help. The domain seems to be available and now I don't know what to do, necessarily. Can anybody tell me what I should happen next? I guess I need to register it and then find a hosting company that doesn't suck. I'm literate enough to be able to create a very basic page for her with 'about' and 'contact' sections. What's the best course of action?
Thanks very much.

Lunarpages (http://www.lunarpages.com/index.php?cj_id=lunarpages&AID=5802068&PID=1470223) was our first host. They were cheap and reliable, and you can buy the domain name right on that page and then go forward to pick your hosting service.
I would start up small. If she gets more traffic or needs more server space, it's very easy to upgrade.

Thanks! I figure she won't get scary amounts of traffic. She's an attorney and I think she just wants it for people to find her easily. Will they be able to set her up with e-mail service with that domain, do you think?
EDIT: I guess I should have read your link first and then I wouldn't have asked that question! Thanks again, Liv.

I see ads for 1 & 1 (http://order.1and1.com/) in just about every computer magazine and they have a cheapy starter deal. Anybody know anything about them other than they are big?

I don't know about 1x1, but another host we used briefly was A Small Orange - Web Hosting, Software and more! (http://www.asmallorange.com).
They're very cool too.

Get her a Myspace. XD:2thumbsup: Actually, my boss mentioned the other day that his son was going to start a MySpace account for their singing group. They have been very successful lately at performing the National Anthem at sporting events. I hope I was able to convince him a blog would at least be slightly more professional.

Globat isn't too bad and neither is Yahoo.

They're very cool too.Wow! For her needs, A Small Orange seems just about perfect. They do a $25/year plan that has what I think she wants. I'm going to talk to the parents today and I might whip up a test page for her to check out what I'm thinking of.

Au contrare! MySpace is the best thing that has ever happened to aspiring bands. It's one of the best ways promote and build a fan base online. Even the big name acts are in on it, and some of them barely have regular sites anymore.
