View Full Version : New Mafia game, perhaps?

So, for some reason, I've been going over old PMs tonight and came across a few from previous Mafia games.

I'd totally forgotten the fun to be had playing Mafia, so was wondering whether somebody would "host" a new game. I have no clue how to do it myself, otherwise I would. Because, hey, who doesn't want the power?

Anybody up for it?

I would be if it doesn't overlap the democracy game. It has been awhile and it would be fun to try it all again.

I can wait. 5 minutes or so

I haven't been following the democracy game thread because I know even less about that than Mafia.

If the democracy game is going ahead, I may need to request a peanut gallery thread. I hate to feel like I'm missing out. :voyeur:

There's always one isn't there? Thinks he can come round here wasting everybody.

We use splurge guns round here, Bugsy.

The marathon viewing has put you in a Deadwoody mood, I see. I know just how you feel, since I watched season 3 a few weeks ago.

I might be in. It's been such a long time since playing this, I don't even remember what "Adamesque" means.

If it's Deadwood, did we ever clarify how best to set up the next one in terms of defeating any possible breaking strategies?

The hoople beatings are the crux of that issue. I think just picking different people each night will solve it.

So we don't have anyone to run the game then? I'd be afraid to run a Deadwood game...

So what is the Mafia game? And the Deadwood game? Named after the TV series right? And then? Can someone get me out of this dark box I am in?

Speaking of which, has anyone seen Adam? I seem to miss a lot these days, so maybe he's been found, I don't know.

Oh, and I would play a game of mafia, I'll vote randomly and instantly this time, I promise. :innocent:

They, Mafia is a type of role-playing game where the players have specific roles. Several of them have Mafia roles and the objective of the game is to figure out which ones are the Mafia and kill them before they kill all of the other players. But there can also be themed games with similar Mafia rules such as our Deadwood game which is based on an excellent HBO Western show (http://www.hbo.com/deadwood/?ntrack_para1=leftnav_category0_show9).

Here's a link to the thread about Mafia, its rules, and its numerous incarnations. Mafia Primer (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9326&highlight=deadwood)

And for your enjoyment, here's the link to the Deadwood game you can read through and see what happened. Deadwood I (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9687&highlight=deadwood)

If you do a search in the game forum for Mafia, you'll find several other Mafia game threads for your reading pleasure.

I might be willing to GM again. I'm a little reluctant just because the writing was a lot of work, but I have the graphics all ready and perhaps it'll be easier for me the second time.

slim, Adam has been MIA since before Christmas. :(

I might be willing to GM a more generic game, but I won't touch Deadwood.

Maybe a smiley mafia game? I could do a smiley theme. That might be fun. Plenty of stuff to work with. hmm... :chin:

livius drusus

Sure. I'm not really sure how the smiley theme would work, though. Can you spitball some ideas?

Crumb
08-03-2007, 11:57 PM
Well it would be a smiley themed stories with smiley death scenes set in a smiley town of my invention. heh. Roles are variable and not locked in with the theme, but I was thinking a doc, cop and single kill vigilante roles depending on the number of players. (Probably will not enough for the vigilante.)

Just seems like it would be fun and would keep the game light. Each role would have an associated smiley, which of course would have to be kept under wraps until a character died. Or maybe revealed to force the mobsters to lie, but that might be too much town power. I don't know. I am throwing around a lot of ideas.

Ok maybe no one is interested in that. Lees can run a Game of Thrones themed game. :chuckle: Or I can do a more generic version. Roles are more important anyway. I am interested in running one.

bey: you could certainly bring in the usual suspects from II.

livius drusus

I think it's a cute idea, actually, and I like that it could keep things lighthearted. Mafia can get seriously tense at times. Otoh, it might tend towards the twee, like a Humboldt figurine village.

Anyway, Crumbles, it's the weekend. Give folks a chance to weigh in. :)

smiley themed could be quite interesting.

I'm in for smiley mafia. :hellyes:

Oh my goodness, Crumb. AGOT theme? That would be awesome. Although, there's only a few of us that have read the books. :sigh:

Leesifer

Oh yes! There are so many different factions to consider.

I'm going to think about it anyway.
