I wish!
But, no, I'm sitting here thoroughly enjoying my solitude; a rare and beautiful thing. I feel totally calm. Didn't even smoke a doob until well after 9pm, even though I had a bag given to me last night. I'm not even drinking really. Just quietly supping on a bottle of Chardonnay, and that's it. My big treat was cleaning the house and getting absolutely everything done, then soaking in a bubble bath. There are thunder storms, and I've got some candles burning and I'm listening to music that I like (at the loud volume I'm so partial to), from Bach to Beck and thrice round the world. Nicest damn New Year I've had since ...ahhh... 1999, or something. :yup:
What are you going to do for New Year? Anything fun or interesting? Or happy to just chill completely like me? :)

That sounds absolutely dreamy, luna. Yeah, I'm in full-on chill mode. It's been a hectic couple of weeks and I haven't gotten anything near enough sleep. This NYE is going to be easy like Sunday morning.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Its 14h30 here and I still have no idea what I'm doing tonight. Wish I had some doob, but I missed the opportunity to organise so its prolly vulgar wine or beer for me tonight and a couch at the end of it, if I don't have people over here.
Have you made any new year's resolutions, Petra?
Happy New Year, all!

Yeah, it's been a hell of a year. Chill out is the only solution. Take stock and begin again. We need more easy Sunday mornings. :)
Have you made any new year's resolutions, Petra?
Kind of, Farren. Development of things that have been in planning for a while - like getting a fulltime job as soon as Zoe gets back to school in early Feb. I also need to get back into getting fit again. I used to swim 2km a day, but I doubt I could manage half a k at the moment. Basically my New Year's resolutions are general "getting my shit together" kinds of things.
How about you?

That sounds like my idea of an ideal New years Luna. No more frenetic hogmanay type parties for me. I've avoided that scene for years. Bach definately will be part of my reflective serene evening, as will be Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones. Leonard Cohen and several other singers that leads me to quiet reflection. Because of the on-going disaster I don't really see anything that I really feel like celebrating. But please don't let my somber mood effect those who wish to whoop it up. Time enough for tears another day.
Ya know folks, there is nothing like a couple of hours of uninterrupted Bach to bring me back (no pun intended) from the brink of despair.

Yeah, Bach rules, Toad.
At www.shoutcast.com there are some classical radio stations that I like - I'm very fond of the Baroques: Bach, Handel, et al - I love it. No one else around me does, though.
I listened to Joni Mitchell's Magdalene Laundries earlier. A beautiful song. Joni is genius.
You'd hate to be near me right now, though - my playlist suddenly got raucous. Probot's Shake Your Blood. That's some headkickin' rock'n'roll, I can assure you. :drumming:

Merry Fucking New Year.
Once again, I'm working both sides of the New Year so no celebrations for me. I'll be in bed by 9:00 PM because I haven't slept worth a shit all fucking week. Oh, hi Socratoad! I was thinking of joining Insomniacs Anonymous but I'm too loopy to fill out the application form. Fuck that and that New Year's Eve shit, it's just another day to me. I'm tipping back a couple of shots of booze and going to bed tonight, theres nothing like medication assisted sleep. Of course, my neighbors, the Bumpasses and the Clampetts, will be shooting their shooting irons in the sky and blowing shit up with quarter-sticks of dynamite right at midnight, the fucknuts. Hopefully I will still be under the effects of the alcohol and won't hear the ruckus.
Petra
12-31-2004, 01:06 PM
You don't need alcohol, warrenly - you need heroin.
Merry happy mad Clampetts and blowed up things, anyway. Take it easy, dude. Hope this year will be better for you. :)

Well ya gotta mix it up sometimes afore one just kinda reflects oneself into oblivion.
Oh ya Joni is a goddess if ever there was one. I remember when the words " and they tore down paradise and put up a parking lot became my passport to becoming very anti-corporate. So much so that I left the rat race never to return. Funny (not humorous) is it not that the line in of a song can have such an impact.
Download Dianna Krall's Joni Mitchell cover of " I could drink a case of you" if ya can. The pure raw melancholics sensuality of that version makes my spine tingle.
Edit to add: Thanks for the link Luna. Check out radio365 .... there are some great stations there as well. Ya can pick a whole set of favourite stations from any and all genres and then can just switch as the mood strikes ya.

...[a] line in of a song can have such an impact.
Actually, I understand that completely. Sometimes, even in a crap song!, is a line or melody or rhythm that just seems to hold the key to some truth or other. And like a revelation, that line or riff encapsulates the essence of something greater. I feel the same way about poetry.

I'll check it out. I'm not a great fan of Ms. Krall - I find her kinda pedestrian. Like cabaret, or something. That said though, I've not heard so much of her that my opinion holds much water. I'll give 'er another whirl, on your recommendation. :yup:

Hi warrenly, perhaps we could start a insomniacs/ procrastinators association some year soon. That way we can be wide awake as we ponder about putting off sleeping until some indefinite possible future

Know exactly whatcha mean regarding Ms Krall. Its just that one song that kinda grabbed me.
PS: of course its Joni's lyrics that makes it special.
The talent we canucks possess makes it so darn hard to remain humble. I'm trying, I'm trying ..... some might very well conclude very trying.

Luna, I'm glad to hear it's your best one for many years.
We usually stay home and watch movies until midnight; we did it one year and it turned into a family tradition.

Socratoad, I'm now downloading the song according to Joni Mitchell. Can't see any Dianne Krall asociated with that song title, so I guess no one's sharing.

Not really. Just "getting my shit together" too, I suppose. I'm contracting at the mo and starting full-time next year and I have to get a place in Joburg instead of an hour's drive out, as well as a new car and other shit.

Luna, I don't know what label she is with as I'm lousy at that type of retention. And perhaps I don't even have the name of the song correct. I will search winmx and perhaps some other sources under for Krall and Mitchell and find it for you. Right now I trying to download bunches of software as I was forced to reformat and lost every damn thing I had on the puter, which makes me feel embarrassed even mentioning considering what millions have lost over in your corner of the world. I shall find it though, never fear.
Now I better get offline and start installing bunches O software.

Dude, they actually have those here. Anti hijack flamethrowers in the doors that shoot a flame up at an angle on both sides. I don't know if the product is allowed on the roads but its not pretty. Mebbe one with teargas would be more appropriate. Heh.

Happy New Year everyone!
As someone who never needed an excuse to get stupid drunk, New Years Eve has never really stood out for me. But I think my favorite one was 2000 'cause instead of drinking I had to be at work preparing for the computer meltdown that wasn't. So I got to play network Unreal Tournament with my co-workers 'til like 4:00 a.m. :)

Getting to work in the morning would kill me if I moved to Auckland. I'd have to leave for work as soon as I got home. Otherwise I'd love to.
Joburg ain't so bad if you've got an electric gate, electrified fence, vicious dogs, an alarm and on-call security and maybe a guardian angel. You get used to it :D
Actually crimes quite bad in the 'burbs but most of the "most dangerous city" stats come from the spawling informal settlements where people live in haphazardly built tiny makeshift shacks packed so tight even cops on bikes have a hard time getting around.

Man, I'm still falling for it.
I've worked fewer than 16 hours in the last two weeks, and spent my days off visiting four different time zones. I spent more nights in hotels and guest rooms than in my own bed. Combine all that with the fact that the feds are giving 2 Jan off for the "holiday" and I am twenty shades of confused right now.
Happy New Year's, yall. Whenever it may be!
