Remember the movie The Blue Lagoon? Well, the island is for sale on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140123811370) for a meager 25 million Euros. I can't believe what a steal that is (nor that they chose eBay to broker the deal :faint: ).

But I don't want a resort and villas. I want it to just be mine. :(

How is a price of 25,000,000 Euros a steal. That seems pretty fucking pricey to me. While it may have been used as a location for the filming of a movie, I do not see how that would warrant such an outrageous asking price.

There, there... The villas are roofless. You can still feel like a shiftless bum. :comfort:

 It's an entire island, MonCap, for less than you would pay for a luxury penthouse in New York. One mile, 225 acres, of completely private, well-developed lagoon real estate in Fiji. What price would you consider fair, exactly?

It's still in the middle of nowhere. Definitely less than 25,000,000 Euros that is for sure. Maybe 10-15 million instead. So what if it is an island. It's in the tropics so there will never be wintry weather. As such I can't imagine the appeal some hot humid tropical island can have. It's bad enough summer exists. Having to live on an island with summer weather year round would be a hellish fate.

There are many islands for sale (http://www.privateislandsonline.com), some much less than that. You will, of course, have to get electricity and water to most of them....
My idea of heaven is a private tropical island in the middle of nowhere. That's why I knew the above link. Not everyone feels as you do Mon Cap, obviously.
But, you're in luck, there are private islands for sale in Novia Scotia and off Maine as well. Cold enough for ya?

Oh man, I totally found mine: Gallinaro Island (http://www.privateislandsonline.com/gallinaro.htm). Not only is it blissfully located on the Italian riviera, not only does the name mean "rooster guy", not only is the main villa a former monastery, not only are there WWII era tunnels built during the German occupation, but it has a habitable Roman watchtower with 360:degrees: views on the south side. :lovey:
It's marked as sold, though. It better have been my parents planning ahead for my birthday or I'm so gonna throw a tantrum.

I don't have the money to buy one. Still even if I did. The idea of owning a private island does not appeal to me. I prefer living in densely populated areas. The idea of rural or suburban living or living in isolated areas is not one I find pleasant. If I did have a lot of money I would move to a city further north from the one I live in currently.

Me, I'm just the opposite. I wouldn't willingly live in any city on the planet. To each his/her own.
Oh man, Memaloose Island in Idaho's Lake Pend Oreille is for sale!

Memaloose Island can be found on Lake Pend Oreille in remote, beautiful North Idaho. It is a short boat trip from a deeded shoreline access to the thirteen acre island with over 6,000 feet of waterfront. Watch eagles soar above, pristine water lap against the pebble beach, and sunsets from the bluff.
Immerse yourself in the rich history of the area, or lose yourself in the tranquility of the island and the lake. Lake Pend Oreille is the largest lake in Idaho, surrounded by public lands, and vast mountain ranges. Unique wildlife, unexplored shorelines, uncharted depths and stunning vistas make this lake one of the most spectacular lakes in the world. Memaloose sparkles like a small gem on this dazzling lake.
Just 22 miles away, Sandpoint has been called the best small town in the west by Sunset magazine. Sandpoint offers medical facilities, a small airport, recreational opportunities, shopping, and fine dining in a quaint small town atmosphere. Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort is also located in Sandpoint and offers 2,350 acres of ski-able terrain. Several golf courses, including the Northwest's premier Hidden Lakes Golf Course are close. In addition, the Northwest avails itself of some of the finest fishing and hunting in the country.
The current zoning of the island is rural. It is serviced by power and has a sixty gallon per minute well. There is a small, habitable cabin and several rustic outbuildings. A large portion of the island is forested in old growth pine.
Okay, Sandpoint is a bit of a tourist trap and so everything's overpriced in my experience, but it is a nice little town with some really nice restaurants and art galleries and whatnot, a supermarket and a movie theater. So it isn't like you're really isolated. And Coeur d'Alene is less than an hour's drive from Sandpoint -- when road conditions are good, anyway.
Does anybody have $16 million they aren't doing anything with?
Cheers,
Michael

I guess this is as good a time as any to get rid of it.

Heh. I am not surprised. From what I have gathered from your post you seem the type who would much prefer living near nature. While I happen to think that natural expanses like forests and the like are beautiful places I would rather admire them from afar.

Oooh, the place in Idaho looks lovely. If they could just chase all the white supremacist militias out of the stae, it'd be perfect!

Wow...that's amazing. I wish the slideshow included a picture of the watchtower.
I've never actually felt any need to be wealthy until just now...not being able ot afford an island sucks. Hmmpgg...and I suppose my homeowners' association would frown on my digging a moat around my house, the fascists.

Fuck HoA's. If I drop that kind of loot on property, its function and decor are going to be up to me and not a bunch of quivering goatfuckers.

It's not like I'm going to install unsightly solar panels, for fuck's sake! Just a small, tasteful moat...and maybe some modest earthworks.

Yeah, I was doing some field work up in the Selkirk Mountains of northeastern Washington/northern Idaho one day and when I got home, I saw in the paper where some "All government is evil and we've got lots of guns" sorts had gotten into an altercation with local law enforcement just a short distance from where I'd been working. I could easily have wandered into the middle of their property without knowing it until it was too late.
Fortunately, Sandpoint is a tourist trap and has far more yuppies than white supremacists at any given moment.

Once, while hiking in western North Carolina with a friend, I came to a small cleared patch in the forest. It was early Spring, the ground had been tilled and prepared, and someone was evidently getting ready to plant something there, out in the middle of nowhere. Not far from the patch of cleared ground was a big bag of fertilizer. Linda asked me what the purpose of the clearing was. I whispered to her, "Shut up, turn around, and walk away." "Why?" she asked loudly. "Because," I whispered to her urgently as I grabbed her arm and started to drag her away, "the chances are really good that someone with a gun is either watching us right now or will show up very soon, and if we don't leave right now, no one will ever find our remains."
There are some scary people out there ...
Cheers,
Michael
