Buddy of mine commands a tank company, "C" company. By tradition, all tank names in that company must begin with "C".

I tried explaining the Cthulhu thing to him, I don't think he got it. I have half a mind to spray paint the name "Cthulhu F'thagn " on his tank's gun tube.

Isn't there a new Cthulhu movie being made soon?

I was only aware of the "silent" The Call of Cthulhu (2005) (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0478988/) which I think you can only buy via The Call of Cthulhu DVD (http://www.cthulhulives.org/store/store.lasso?1=product&2=8) (and which I haven't seen but is apparently good).

But imdb says there's also Cthulhu (2007) (http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0478126/). It's got Tori Spelling in it ... and yet
To be blunt: Cthulhu is not a good film. I had high hopes going in, as I do with all films shown at SIFF, but I was disappointed throughout and I know others were as well. From the mediocre-to-outright-horrible acting (except, ironically, for Tori Spelling who plays a sexy, baby-seeking blonde), to the lackluster script, to the 2 hour running time (note to director: you should be GLAD you were forced to reduce it to this length).... starting at the half-way point I could not wait for it to be over. Had the film been written and shot as a tongue-in-cheek comedic version of the story with intentional sarcasm, etc, it might have worked. But the combination of trying to make a serious film, plus the bad acting, makes Cthulhu not quite worth the celluloid it's printed on.

My digest from the other comments is that is could be quite a good quiet horror, but doesn't have any real connection to Cthulhu.

Posted today on another forum.

Having no better way to spend my vacation than going to a Sci-Fi & Fantasy con, I decided on staying till midnight to watch the new Cthulhu movie, supposedly a premiere outside the US.
After sitting there for 2 hours, the only thing I can say is WTF???
First of all it has more from SOI in it than COC, then the editing was extremely bad, it felt like a bunch of events without any connection between them.
The gay love scene was extremely disturbing, to say the least.
The final conclusion is that the director should be immediately sacrificed to appease the great old ones, to prevent them from eating us all.

The first reply indicated that disturbing scenes should probably be required in a CoC movie.
