In the unlikely event that Toad and Ex-zombie run out, I've got extras, too.
I feel like a pusher from some after-school special or something.
Psst, hey kid. Wanna gmail account?

You can always read my mind Lisa. I really hate have to ask women for their email addies and full names. Even those I have come to know quite well via the boards. One of the very few possession I have left is my integrity and other peoples perception of just that. It just about fucking kills me to think someone may be suspicious of my motives. And yet on the internet I'm well aware the women and girls can't be too careful, or young boys for that matter.
And so your Psst kid blurb strikes an uncomfortable cord with this ole :toad:
Just because I'm paranoid does not mean they are not after me.

Here is the obligatory "I boycott gmail, ask me why!" post.
I have concerns about their privacy policy, that's why.
Although the Internet watchdog group the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) did not feel the privacy concerns were scary enough for them to join the gmail boycott, in this article (http://www.templetons.com/brad/gmail.html) EFF founder Brad Templeton explains how his own research (including lengthy interaction with his friend, Google President Larry Page) has him concerned.
At the same time the uber-respectable Tim O'Reilly (of O'Reilly computer books fame) feels the privacy questions (although this unrelated article doesn't address all the points Templeton raises) are totally bogus (http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/4707).
I can see both sides of the argument, but since I already get similar service from Yahoo! I'm not willing to take any unnecessary risks for a mailbox that's free vs. one that's $19.95 a year. I use POP3 to download all my e-mail into Outlook anyway, which I can search and archive locally.

Oh, Toad, no. Not you. Me.
I was trying so hard to get rid of my invites a while back that I think I was actually getting on people's nerves with it. "No! I don't want your damned Gmail account! Leave me alone!"
All you're doing is offering a general invite for people who are interested.
Me, I really was a pusher.

I'm not too worried about security issues, as I never shop online (no credit card helps with that) and will only really use gmail for sharing music and that kind of thing.
One example, is that I'll post a Frank Zappa video of Cosmic Debris to my account a little later today, and then I'll give wade-w my log-in details so that he can download it for himself. It's something I tried to send to him some time ago, but as the file size is so huge, our ordinary email accounts couldn't manage it.
Beyelzu gave me the idea for that, as he sent me some files via his own gmail account, giving me the login details so that I could retrieve the songs he sent, and was able to send him some stuff as a thank you.
So, y'all, if you ever see that I'm listening to something you like, or you want something you think I may have, just let me know and we'll share through my gmail account. :)
It's all good. :yup:

Hey using it to share files is an excellent idea. :yup:
The main concern with the privacy policy (and really it's not a huge deal at all) is that Google stores your search keywords in a cookie on your computer, and your email on their servers. So if you use Google as your primary search engine (which I do) and gmail as your e-mail, they could (if they chose to) cross-reference your e-mails with your search terms and compile a fairly comprehensive profile of your interests. A great way to round up dissidents and such.
But again, that's just me being paranoid. :)

There is a front end or whatever called gmail drive, very handy for upload\ding files to your gmail account. I lost mine when I was forced to reformat. However just google it as it should not be hard to find. Its not affiliated with google but it works well. I used if to upload a few small programs, etc that I wanted to make sure were safe. I imagine that if two many peeps abuse this neat little program google will put a stop to it, possibly by severally limiting individual uploads. try it you'll like it ..... said the priest to the alter boy.
Sorry Sweetie, the devil made me do it.
PS: think of this gmail drive as if it were a virtual hard drive.

:yup: Please and Thank you..!! I would love one..!!
I watched a 60 minutes piece on these guys last night..!! Talk about BRILLIANT..!! :yup: :yup:
To get a job at GOOGLE you have to go through an interview process that is like no other. If I remember correctly you end up having 19 different interviews before they even come close to hiring you..!! I would be in out of my mind at about the 3rd interview, and in an institution on the 10th..!! :D
I'm thinking the privacy issue won't be a problem.

Stuff like that pisses me off. I'm so fucking old that I remember when perspective employees were treated as if they were actual human beings rather than part of some cattle call.
I realise that few to none of you will understand what I'm babbling about as you have been raised in this era of insanity, but no matter I just had to get that off my chest,
I have owned two companies in my past and when perspective employees come seeking a position in my companies/corporations, call them what you will, it was my policy to tell the personnel officer to just do a very preliminary check as to potential suitability and then bring the person to my office.
I just perused resumes without a hell of a lot of interest. Then I interviewed the person. I could tell within ten minutes whether I would hire the person or not. I never left people dangling by their thumbnails for days or told them there were a hundred or more people I had to see. In all my years in business I only made one mistake. I traveled a lot and the person I left in charge followed the same guidelines. I believe that if you treat people with respect and are loyal to them, your loyalty will be returned tenfold.
I too would soon be bouncing off the walls of the rubber room if I had to put up with the fucking indignity young and not so young people have to put up with in todays job market. A fucking good start would be to line up at least eighty percent of those useless MB As and shoot the bastards.
So sayeth the Toad

Wow, I read those two exact articles last night, after reading this budding thread. But the file sharing idea is a good one, if it'll work. How large a file, do ya think? I have someone who wants to send me some image files, its worth a try.
So.... any extra gmail accounts out there? Lisa? Socratoad? Ex-zombie?

You can try. I've donated several there, but nobody's claimed one yet. It seems that supply has been outpacing demand for the past couple few months or so.
So if you have someone else you can send your invites to, I'd go ahead and do it.

Actually mine are going like hotcakes. I wonder if one could actually offer some to persons in underdeveloped or war torn nations.. I was thinking about some of those Iraqis who have given the world such insights from their perspective. Chinese resisters. The Mexicans who are fighting for just a little justice within their own nation. And now some of these living in the midst of hell in South East Asia ....... and suchlike. Perhaps google would consider such donations to be subversive.
Don't mind me, I'm just thinking aloud through my fingertips

Freemonkey check your PMs. I've left instructions there so that I will be able to send you a gmail account. I sent that PM several hours ago when most of the western world, including you I assume, were safely tucked in thier beds.

Ne'er mind, I'll post some music up later anyway, give y'all a list of what's there for the time being, and anyone who wants it can pm me for my login details.
Also, I have 3 gmail accounts to give away, too. So, anyone want one - pm me. :)

Yup. I made myself a second gmail account so that I could send music files from one to the other.
I have a few songs uploaded, so if you like Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon, Nick Cave, St. Germain, or The Veils send me a PM for login details. I'm back and forth from the pc - school holidays, kid in my face, etc - but will reply as soon as I can to any requests. :)

Use a file splitter.
Well, normally, I would tell someone who has Photoshop or something similar to cut their image files into manageable parts that I can reassemble on my end, but sometimes I need to get things from people who don't have/don't know how to use such programs.
Is there a one format fits all type of deal out there?
I suppose you could also Zip files??

I just found HJSplit (http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/#win32), a small executable you can run without installing anything. I don't know anything about it except that it looks like a useful file splitting utility.

Not yet, freemonkey. I've been frantically busy with a very wet school holidays and kids everywhere. When I get more than a few minutes to myself at a time, I shall give it a whirl.
Blake - you still need one?
