View Full Version : I Dream of lisarea. No, Really...

I actually dreamt about lisarea last night. We both got laid off/expelled from the same company/school (it's a bit of a blur) and they sent us to one of those lame post-firing get another job you deadbeat seminars. It was held in some ruin or another in Rome -- a cistern or catacomb or maze of some kind, all moist tufa walls and worn marble floors -- and turned out to be just a showing of a random Koyaanisqatsi-like movie.

Then she hooked up with Win (an SC poster who is also a member here but hasn't posted yet) and I brought them some music so they could ride the carnal carousel in style. Unfortunately, the cd player was somehow attached to me, so I had to hunker down under a blanket and doze off while the music played and they had sex not 3 feet away from me (I was on one of side of a table and they were on the other. Benches were involved. More than that I can't say.)

When they finished, Win woke me up and told me to bugger off. I think he thought I was kind of pathetic to have brought them the music.

I think this qualifies as a sleep disturbance by any standard.

I've had a dream about lisarea myself, but I cannot tell about the lurid details here. I did write lisarea about it. I think she thought it was complimentary... more or less.

I wish I had dreams about Lisarea.

So, like, Jung (I think?) said you have to remember that everything you experience in your dreams, every person you meet, everything they say and do and everything you say and do is you telling you something about you.

Waddya think your dream was actually about? What wierd and unrelated subconscious streams of thought and/or purely sensory memories might have mixed up into that intense-sounding bit of debauchery in an antique setting?

I'm guessing the Roman thing is simply a product of your powerful emotional affinity for the imagery and history of the classical world, but the rest?

hehe, that was a good one, liv. I've had dreams about posters, too. Nothing quite so lurid, though. Although one dream I had involved making a fortune printing & selling posters of certain FF beauties (this after spending a weekend trying to think of ways to make a better living).

Hey you guys/gals, hands off, even in your dreams.

Well, let's see... My job is less than secure and when my co-workers were laid off several years ago, they got the seminar deal. I'm not sure what all lisarea and Win were doing there but I was being all puppydog and sycophantish around them, which makes some sense given the huge respect verging on awe I have for them both.

I was quite bratty throughout it all: sassmouthing the teachers/bosses, boastful and sanguine even though people around me were contained and somber. I'm not exactly sure what that means, but I was like that a lot when I was at the school which doubled as my dream employer. I regret that callousness a great deal now and actively seek to counter the tendency.

I don't think there's much a metanarrative to be found here, but I hope that fills in some blanks for you, Farren.

That's right, liv. It was all just a crazy dream. Never happened. You too, Warren. Also, remember that dreams add ten pounds, just in case anybody saw me nekkid or something.

Now I'm kind of having an ethical dilemma. As some of you might remember, but I doubt it, I had a dream a long time ago that the ODB got together with that John Bunnell guy from Real Stories of the Highway Patrol, and they went into business exploiting some legal loophole in real estate contracts called "free enterprise windows,"* and I was having to fight against them.

I still play this card ALL THE FUCKING TIME. If we are trying to pick out a movie to see or decide what to do, and I really feel like winning, I just remind him of the "free enterprise windows" thing so that I can get my way.

So. My question is: By my rules, am I now in trouble with the ODB? I mean, if I am going to hold people responsible for things they do in my dreams, am I also responsible for what I do in other people's dreams?

And if so, should I just set up Net Nanny so that he can't log on here and find out about it, or is that against the discovery rules or whatever? Or do I just have to find a better card to play to win against that Old Dirty Bastard, or what?

* Scarlatti is the legal fiction explainer in this neck of the woods, so I'll leave it to him to explain "free enterprise windows."

That sounds like a good start. I don't think dreams have anything like a single narrative or meaning normally. They're more like your brain mixing up a bunch of symbols, emotions, sensory memories and narratives at or near the forefront of your thoughts in the hope of connecting some more dots as an aid to both long term memory and learning.

I love this kind of setting in dreams. Go wild with the interpretation...
