Listening to a radio program called Art and Politics just now I heard a story about Picasso. I'm not sure whether this actually happened or is a myth, however I think its great.
Apparently Picasso was standing beside his famous painting "Guernica"
during the Nazi occupation of Paris. A haughty German officer jabbed his finger at the painting and shouted at Picasso, "Did you do this?"
Picasso spat back, "No, you did this."
