Not a huge amount of progress, but we called our 'Bama banker to get him started on construction loan shit, and called the builder to get them started on the house plan changes and contract writing. Woohoo! Here we go!
BTW, my dream home with the wrapped porches was too expensive. We're making some modifications to the plan below. Excuse the quality, it's from a fax.

Cool and the gang! :) Shame about the wrapped porches, but really, they're just pretty; how much do they get used? You've got a nice long one there on the front, where it should be.
What modifications are you making--maybe connecting straight to Bedroom #2, rather than going through the Study?

Thanks VM, I am getting excited too :)

We thought of a lot of different things for the study, but I have always wanted a formal library with floor to ceiling shelves in a nice dark wood with interesting books and antiques on them; so Frankie has drawn up some plans to do that in the study :). Bedroom 2 will be a combo office, game room, and guest room, with all built ins, so going through the library will be a nice fit I think.
Modifications so far:
Extending the porch to the end of the bedroom, so it will be 8 ft wide
Adding some kind of interesting porch railing
Bay window in master bedroom
Box ceilings in master bdr and living room
A 2-car garage PLUS a 20x20 workshop which we will block off part of to soundproof for a music studio.
Gas fireplace
10x10 screened porch off the back

That's fabulous, Shea. I vote for a crazy intricate wrought iron porch railing so people think y'all are mad European recluses or something. :D

That's a great looking house! Congratulations! I especially like the duo walk-in closets in the master bath.
Cool! House plans!
... Can we start asking when the thing might be built and ready?

No, not yet, Joe. Just a bit longer ;)
Anyhoo, we will need to take a trip down there to pick out the bricks and cabinets and paint colors and shit and sign contracts and from that point they are saying 90 days to construct. We still need to get a loan and sell our house here. We're looking the earliest May but prolly closer to July.
Oh, and we plan to start the adoption process as soon as we're moved, at least get the homsetudy done.

I love that! The whole Mobile Bay area was settled by the French same as New Orleans, and some older buildings have those. I know some are removing them and I bet I can find some at a salvage yard.

That sucking sound is the sound of freethoughters being pulled into the South. Heehee. Freethoughters.
The house is nice--and a library, very fab!
