Hey, y'all! I had a crazy month and a half of vacationing slash moving across the country slash holiday season, but things are getting settled here in my new home. I've signed a one-year lease on the world's most microscopic apartment, and I have turned on the most important utility of all; my broadband interned connection. Expect more of me in the near future. Consider yourself warned.

"hillbilly"??? Augusta is a long way from Appalachia, and even further from the Ozarks. I hope you don't let your apparent disdain for your neighbors show when you meet them.

Forgive my ignorance of geography east of the Mississippi, this is my first foray onto this side of the continent. Perhaps 'redneck' would have been a more accurate term?
But, what is this 'disdain' you speak of? While apparent to you, it eludes me.

Welcome back, Ensign Steve. Hope you enjoy your new home. So, how's the weather down there? What's there to do in the area?

Ooh! I'm so glad you asked! The weather has been gorgeous since I got here. Partly cloudy and low-seventies Farenheit (in Centigrade, that translates to 'quite pleasant'). The post is small, but it is still at least three or four times the size of the one I just left. The only thing I found of interest downtown is Fort Discovery, which is one of those hands-on science museums for kids and kids-at-heart. On my side of town there is enough shopping and casual dining to keep me more than happy for the next few years. Also, this is the first time in my life I've lived somewhere where I can make a wrong turn and end up in a different state! I've driven over the beautiful Savannah River into South Carolina more times in the last week than I care to admit.

Holy cats! She's alive! :yup:
So, what's going on? Adjusting to the real Air Force? I assume hubby is with you by now, too.
Hmm ... that's actually not a bad location. Not too far from Atlanta, Charleston, or Charlotte. Oooh! Two other spots in NC which may be of interest:
1. Asheville: it's got a high per capita of pagans, plus it's the home of the magnificent Biltmore Estate (http://www.biltmore.com/)! Also, it's just a beautiful area ... go in the fall for the foliage!
2. Hickory: yeah, it looks like just a blip on the map, but there are some awesome furniture stores there. We got an armoire which is some name knock-off for about half of what it would have cost us ... plus, they shipped it to Charleston for FREE!
Anyway, nice to have you back ... we missed you!
Happy New Year to you, too!

Oooh! Furniture shopping! :) Anyone know where I can find decent outlet shopping around here? Mikasa and Bass, especially, but I can find tens of stores to love in any respectful outlet mall.
I have already visited Charlotte (went to my uncle's for Christmas) and Atlanta. I have goals set to visit Washington and Orlando at some point during my tenure out here.
Adjusting to the 'real' Air Force is slow going, as I was supposed to start in-processing yesterday but some sort of strained muscle or nerve in my neck made that impossible. In about ten minutes I have my first of many briefings, this one is about budgeting or somethingorother.
Hubby's not here yet, he opted to stay home for the holidays. :( I can't say I blame him, as hectic as mine were. I plan to have him shipped out as soon as I get settled in.
Thanks all for the warm and fuzzy welcomes back. I missed you all muchly.

Happy New Year!
With all the new relocations to GA, there should be a dinner in the works. Commerce outlets are about 2 hours away from you, but there may be closer ones. I know there's a Bass outlet in Commerce, and pretty sure that there's a Mikasa one too.

Hey, it's like the start of a new school term! Everyone's arriving back! Welcome, Ensign! (You'll find some changes in the syllabus this term.)
Broadband :appl: - but broadband what? Is this what they're talking about when they say "On the interned, no one knows you're an ass"?

I totally second Shake's recommendation of Charleston and Asheville--both are lovely. Savannah, too.
And there is a Mikasa outlet in Commerce--also both are at the North GA Premium Outlets in Dawsonville, which are farther away from Augusta, but if you're spending a weekend in the NGA mountains or even in ATL, it wouldn't be out of the way. Those are the ones I'm most familiar with.

Eel? what stripey eel? And then I realized you meant "moire" (except I can't make the accent over the "e"). No, speeling doesn't coutn this term, but I'm so easily confused.
Welcome, welcome, welcome back Ensign Airman!!! What'll ya be doin'? Missed ya!!
