When I was growing up and vinyl still walked the earth, novelty albums would be released at Halloween (and Christmas as well but that's not important). Some of them were sound effects compilations, some were recordings of ghost stories and some were collections of novelty songs reminiscent of Bobby Pickett's Monster Mash. I know the FX albums survived into the CD age but I haven't seen the other kinds in a long time.
For those of you who remember them or those who would like to, this site has audio files (mostly MP3s) of a large number of them, for free.
Forbidden Crypts of Haunted Music (http://dw56.250free.com/ForbiddenCryptsOfHauntedMusic.html) They were having bandwidth problems a few days ago but the site seems to be back now.
ETA, a lot of the links seem to be coming up 404 though. :\
