View Full Version : Spurious time limits

Are you bored or something, mick? A month later and you reply?
This "you have to reply with the month or it doesn't count" thing is surely just one more in a long line of pretexts to divert attention away from issues which for some reason are unpopular here. Why, in the Freethought Forum of all places, is there such opposition to some ideas? Can anyone explain?

Mick:
I can see your point. You just want to make sure your response is well-considered, well-researched, and well-written.

Right?

Who gives a squat whether anybody even remembers it?

Plus, it gives a great deal of perspective on how petty it was to begin with.

Leesifer:
Don't you know that it takes Mickthinks a loooong time to think through these things. He's not like you and I...he spayshul. As in short bus. It's not nice to make fun of folks like Mick.

You should be ashamed. :tsktsk:

Hey, Mr Stroppy McStropperson! I don't think I mentioned an actual time limit.

It would maybe a polite thing to say "sorry for the delay in replying". Considering that you were replying to a polite response in a thread that you'd started.

Now, this thread heah, is going nowhere but the funny farm. godfry has already seen to that and he's getting gromped for it too, whether he likes it or not.

But, hey, that's for another reply in this thread. After the grompfest, I shall return, oh let's say around 27th November. Make a note in your diaries, girls.

Leesifer

Are you serious, Leesifer? Why do you talk of a delay, and who or what do you think has suffered?

I shall return, oh let's say around 27th November.
LOL! By all means, take your time...

Mick

Well, yes, I was actually serious on the original thread. You're not stupid so I'm not going to take the bait. You know what I meant.

But, you see, there's a much, much bigger problem here.

Mick! You are English, as am I. We are nothing if not polite. We may be racist and zenophobic and yearn for the days when we ruled the world - and, let's face it, it was a much better world then.

My dreams of recovering the Empire are in ruins. If it weren't for cep I don't know what I'd do. :sigh:

Mick is English?

I thought he was just another Mick hiding out in London.

Leesifer

I was assuming because of the "London" thing but I expect he could be foreign and pretending to be English.

That would be just like a foreigner too!

Thanks Leesifer

You know what I meant.
I think you meant to get at me for a reason which seems to be fair if you don't look too closely at it, but actually begins to appear pretty shitty once it's examined in the light.

Like the accusations of 'passive aggression', 'trolling', and 'moralising' that get thrown around here by people who should, I think, know better.

Leesifer
10-24-2007, 11:34 PM
You're welcome, Mick.

Actually, no. I didn't want to "get at you" particularly.

It just struck me that you hadn't bothered to reply to a post on a thread that you'd started for over a month. And you start it with "hello so and so" like you'd not ignored their post for that whole time. Because, it's not like you haven't been here.

And I don't think I have ever accused anybody of being passive aggressive, trolling or moralising, so shove that up your pipe and smoke it, you passive aggressive, moralising troll.

Oh, wait!

Actually, no. I didn't want to "get at you" particularly.
Not particularly! Generally, then? Or randomly? What are you trying to pull say here?

...you hadn't bothered to reply...
You talk about it as if it were the kind of thing we have a duty to do. We really don't, you know.

Mick

I didn't have to make a WHOLE NEW THREAD ABOUT your REPLY TO my REPLY TO A MONTH OLD POST. I wanted to ask you to explain why you thought it was a point worth making. I think it was rather a petty snipe, but maybe you can make it seem more worthy and constructive?

Mick.

Jesus fucking christ. Normal people can lose interest in perpetually rehashing the same minutiae. When a conversation has been dead for a month, people move on. Not everyone keeps a text file of everyone else's comments for constant and endless review.

mickthinks
10-25-2007, 12:46 AM
LOL! None of us here cares much for appearances of normality, ChuckF. You least of all, I think! I'm not asking you to care about what you think of as minutiae. If I thought it was just minutiae then I wouldn't be very interested either. But I don't go around telling other people what they should and shouldn't be interested in. Where do you get your arrogance from?

ChuckF

Are you casting aspersions on my normalcy? That isn't very constructive.

Think about it and get back to me in 2012. I'm sure there will be plenty of contrived idiocy still around. If not, just bump any of the pages and pages you've already given us.

Hello Lees - you've gone all strong and silent on me!

Not until you can explain why you had to make a WHOLE NEW THREAD ABOUT MY REPLY TO YOUR REPLY TO A MONTH OLD POST!

I think the idea that a discussion contribution can be attacked if it isn't made at "the right time" is a bad one, and I'd like to see it put aside at :ff:.

Can you explain why you thought it was a worthy and constructive point to make and not just a rather a petty snipe?

Mick.

I think it all depends on the type of thread and how it is resurrected.

Can you explain why you thought it was a worthy and constructive point to make and not just a rather a petty snipe?

Mick.

Actually no. Because it was a petty snipe.

Hello Angakuk

What exactly would be the problem with petty snipes?
LOL! Well apart from being sniping and ... er ... petty; and, of course, destructive and, when they masquerade as reasons for discounting valid opinions and ignoring sound ideas, then they are dishonest; they are mean-spirited and they are intended to be hurtful. And they are unjustifiable. We can do better. Apart from that, you are right; there's nothing much wrong with them at all. :tongueincheek:

Kudos to Leesifer for owning up to sniping here! I think her honesty puts viscousmemories to shame.

Mick
