heh, I think i may become a knuckle dragging two planker this year. I'm thinking of taking up cross country skiing this winter....and I'm still keeping the old snowboard for the mountains, not that I wont take skies with me to try and learn telemark.

anyways..equipment wise, does any one on here know what to look for in a pair of cross country skis, as Im likley going to be looking for used stuff.

im actually really exited right now...we're soposed to get a good snowfall tonight here in E-town, and the local ski hills have all started their snow making equipment

I used to X-C ski when I lived in Utah, no telemarking, just skiing on groomed trails at Brighton, Utah. I would dress in layers for the -10:degrees:F temperature but find myself stripped down to a t-shirt within a half hour on sunny days, it was that good of a workout. I miss it. Oh, I've tried to X-C ski here in Oklahoma, but the snow is too damn sticky.

eh ding fod if your finding the snow too sticky to ski you need a difernt wax, even I know that one. got dozen differnt types just for my snowbard...and -10F dosnt even make me blink.

I did actaully ski at one point, but not in the last 14 years

I have waxless skis. However, I did buy a glide wax, a liquid wax to apply to make them slide better. But, when it's about 32:degrees:F out, the snow is just not that good for Nordic skiing.

yummmm big white....Man I miss snowboarding.

Have you been up to big white? OMG the condos there! It's gone from a dinky ski hill to major high end condos! Can't sya I blame them, its the most beautiful of all the BC skiing areas!

As for x-country skiing...only did it once. I like snow shoeing a lot more than x-country skiing. Shit loads of trails up there too.

There are these magical devices that have chairs, they take all the boring parts out of skiing and leave only the fun stuff, maybe you have heard of them. ;)

I've always wanted to try cross country

No, i didnt know there actaually was a real E-town. up here E-town is more a local slang than anything.........ie E-town is Edmonton, Calgary is cow-town, toontown is saskatoon...etc

And ohhh I can only imagine how much he's kicking himself.

Hell I'm kicking myself for not buying a condo 8 years ago for 150 grand.

Roastelk - if you are looking for equipment, the MEC sometimes has equipment exchanges, maybe check their website. I like to haunt used stuff stores, and pick up likely looking stuff cheap (like $5). I only by the boards and poles, and have a supply of bindings I like which fit a quality pair of boots. On hand right now I have an old fashioned pair of steel-edged boards from the 60s for deep powder, a pair of heavily cambered and side-cut Karhus (actually I did buy these new) for telemark and bush turing (my favourite activity), a pair of real beaters for in the fall when there really isn't enough snow yet (how does one best wax for rocks and mud?), and a pair of long, staight 80s style fibreglass skis for spring skiing on the lake. When we go, we try to make a day of it. Pack a lunch, a wineskin, maybe a doob or two and take off into the bush with the dogs. Piss on that club skiing bullshit, get out there into the big lonely.
