I went to a Chick-Fil-A for the first time today. My roommate had to tell me the name is a play on "chicken filet". I kept thinking it was "chick filla".

I really don't understand that place. It's like one day someone was like, "Hey, McDonalds has really good chicken sandwiches and nuggets. Why don't I start a place that's ONLY chicken sandwiches and nuggets!?"

And then to make matters worse... I'm sorry but pickle slices? On a breaded, fried chicken sandwich? Pickles? It just didn't make sense. I love pickles, don't get me wrong. And I love chicken. But pickles on a chicken sandwich?

The cross-cut fries were really good. I was happy about those. But when I was done eating I still felt that special kinda gross only fast food can make you feel. I didn't always notice that feeling, but I seriously cut down on fast food after reading Fast Food Nation, and then even moreso since I started shopping and cooking at home with more frequency.

Okay that's all I can say about Chick-Fil-A.

When I lived in Tampa a couple of years ago, their 3-D billboards cracked me up. It looked like this:

Never ate there, but it's not likely I will ever forget that billboard.

:roflmao: Yeah, I swear I've seen that billboard or one like it somewhere on one of my recent cross-country drives, but I forgot who it was an ad for. That's hilarious. :yup:

*Ugh*

When I was in high school (grades 9-12 to liv) I had my first and only experience with a upChuck-Fil-A. The first taste of the sandwich, I bit into something. My thought at the time was that it was a network of veins, but that was probably just my horribly morbid imagination. It was black and thin, perhaps some sort of cloth just beneath the breading. Whatever it might have been, it cost me my appetite.

I can still remember the sensation of biting into the sandwich and snagging my teeth on it. :verysick:

Found another one.

The official Chick-Fil-A website has an image of this billboard, but only for qualified journalists who will use it for journalistic purposes, not for personal or commercial use. In other words, it's behind a password protected page and I don't have a password. Boy are they strict.

I love their billboards but between the pickles and the vein tapestry, there's no way the advertising is going to pay off with me. :vomit:

Here's a PETA vandalized version of that billboard:

Is that supposed to be a chicken writing? Is it a guy in a chicken suit? Either way, it's pretty damn funny.

We don't have Chick Fil A here, but did in Colorado. I liked the pickles on the sammiches and I love the criss cut fries.

That is funny. It looks like a guy in a Big Bird suit.

Lately some of the Baptist churches in the area have been putting out little signs that say, "What are we here for?" (or something to that effect) Everytime I see one, there is an urge to find a sticker or sign that says, "Eat more chiken." It would look so good beneath the church's sign.

Chick-fil-a is closed on Sundays. Guess why? ;)

Seriously, it's tasty stuff. And I like how they have fruit cups and other healthy options for their combos, like Wendy's is starting to do.

Hey, I've eaten at a Chick-Fil-A - 17 years ago. It seemed wierd to me until I realised that, unlike Brits, Americans like to pronounce 'fillet' the French way. You chicken-eating no-surrender-monkeys.

Oops. Unlike the Brits? I guess the Brits probably thought my OP was nonsensical, then.

Yep, Brits insist on pronouncing "filet" as it's spelled, but throw an extra "f" in lieutenant.

I went to high school on a college campus. This had many advantages. Instead of a cafeteria we had a thing kinda like a mall food court; one of the franchises represented was Chik-Fil-A. I haven't eaten there since, but I do remember the fries being very good, if greasy as hell. I never trusted the chicken. It looked too much like little rounds of medium-density fiberboard.

Except that we spell it "fillet", the way it's spelled. And lieutenant is a stupid word however it's pronounced.

Interesting aside: We actually spell all our words the way they're spelled. :yup:

Actually, I do think their chicken nuggets are much better quality than McDonalds or Burger King. And my daughter is a fine judge of these things.

My kids really like their waffle fries. But the godblessamerica signs in their drive through windows are a bit irritating to me.

I always thought their chicken was much more chicken-whitemeat-like than McDonald's McNuggets-O-Chickenpaste.

BTW, you've probably noticed that McDonald's McNuggets are now 100% white meat.

Which sucks because some of us actually prefer dark meat, goddammit!
