Does anyone know about this Seinfeld DVD box set?
All 9 seasons on 23 DVDs for $169.95.

www.tvshowsondvds.net

Something about this doesn't smell right.

That website seems to have only the one product, the Seinfeld DVD box set.

Can't find where they are located, but apparently it is "offshore".

No phone numbers, fax numbers, or mailing address, or even a company name.

Can't find what carrier they use for shipping.

Delivery takes 2 to 4 weeks.

I can't find any useful whois info (just points back to the registrar).

Why are they using a .net domain for retailing instead of .com?

It seems the site was not in existence prior to December 23, 2004 (but I may be mistaken about that if they were with another registrar previously).

The advertising copy does not seem to have been written by someone whose native language is English.

There is no region coding (although that all by itself isn't necessarily a red flag, it just adds to the bad smell I'm getting from all the other things.)

This box set doesn't seem to have all the extras that the "official" DVDs have (and by official I mean as sold by amazon.com and other legitimate retailers).

I'm suspicious that the video quality might be VCD (mpeg 1), even though it is on DVD.

Anyone else heard of this Seinfeld DVD box set?

They are absolutely not legit. Pirate copies without a doubt. As far as I know only the first few series have been released in any form, so chances are they are probably recorded straight of TV. They could well have actual ad breaks in then, maybe station id bugs.

And if my silly maths is right, then to get 180 episodes (23 minutes each) on 23 DVDs results in a bitrate of about 2Mbit, which is very low. Generally speaking, most 20-ep TV series releases are on 6 or 7 disks (or 3 or 4 double-sided ones) so you'd expect something closer to 50 DVDs to make a decent release of the whole show.

Sycophant's got to be right, xoup. It's shady in every possible way.

www. tvshowsondvds .net is a SCAM !!!

My friend, who loves Seinfeld, ordered it before asking me for my opinion,
well ... she got ripped off! The crook never shipped anything and no way to contact them! No phone, no address and all Emails bounce! The credit card may refund her purchase but NOT without major hassle.

Conclusion: warn all your friends BEFORE they reply to any (SPAM) email.

PS#1: xouper's checkist is great !!!

PS#2: maisrenda .com is another internet crook much like tvshowsondvds .net but that is a different story...

PS#3 when listing crooked domain names (like www . tvshowsondvds . net and www . maisrenda . com) insert spaces next to the dots so that it does not help their Google rating!

Good point. Perhaps I should wait for the official release of the entire series in a box set of 4 Blu-rayŽ discs. :shades:
