I've recently become a member at a Honda VTX forum and as I am now a member of the Star Touring & Riding Assoc., I set up an account on their forum tonight which is all well and good, but I can't bear to post there! :tremble: Why? Because of the smilies! :dontlook: They're horrifying! :gasp: In both design and the small number of smilies to choose from! :cries: Utterly horrifying! :backaway:

I took one look and I :cryhome: back to the :ff:.

Ahhh.. it's good to be home. :ffglomp:

Are you certified?

If you've gotten used to the smilie madness round here, it's always tempting to tell other forums' admins to get a decent hoard or forget about smilies altogether.

Oh, and thanks for changing that awful washing machine guy smiley, liv. That was truly horrible.

Go forth and spread The Word of Smiley as handed down by Saint Smiley!

Is Shelli allowed to come back, just like that?

I mean, she WAS unfaithful.

Oh, please, please, please! Lemme back! *SOB!* It's so scarily smilie-less out there!

Seriously, the smilies elsewhere are lacking, horrific, or both. I start to post and go to insert a smilie and remember that it's not there. :sadcheer:

It makes me sorely tempted to link to smilies here, but I'd have to reprimand myself if I were to do that. :backhand:

You are right of course. The lack of smilies on all other boards is ... disturbing. :nojustno:

Nah, I'm no smilie artist. I'm just a champion of the underappreciated guys. I mean, someone made him.

Hah. I belong to a forum which prides itself on the lack of use of smilies.

I've encountered a lot of critical attitudes, from the fairly mundane "smilies are for people who haven't mastered language" to the more grandiose "I don't use smilies because my posts are deep and serious." (Okay so the latter is a paraphrase, but that's the gist).

I personally think smilies are aesthetically charming and pragmatically valuable, as a means of conveying "body language" that would otherwise be lost when interacting in this medium. I'm totally fine with people not wanting to use or see them, but I've never heard a particularly interesting or compelling justification for it.

Oh, where oh where have all the smilies gone? Oh, whoa whoa whoa!

I'm too deep and super serial to use smilies. Hmph.

Deep in what though?
