I've received official word of a new job offer tonight - another contract position back where I was up 'til last August. It probably won't be as interesting or lucrative as the job offer I recently lost because of the credit check, but it will be more tech experience and very welcome income. I'm also going through a different agency so I'll be eligible for benefits in 30 days, which is cool. I should be starting next week, so enjoy me while I'm here.

That's great! Money before the holidays, and benefits for contract work are as rare as hen's teeth.

If these guys back out we'll send someone else to tend to their needs.

I shall do my best to enjoy you in the coming week. Though if I haven't figured out how after this long, I don't know what another week could do.

Congratulations! :)
(I was doing tech work for a contracting company that offered benefits after a month too. The benefits were awful but so much better than nothing at all.)

They can fire you for having bad credit? :tmshockd:
Not fired, but job offer withdrawn when standard background check revealed bad credit history. One of the clients was the state lottery commission, so I guess they didn't want anyone on the inside who might be tempted to embezzle. Or something.
Congrats, anyway.
Thanks!

I don't know, if I could figure out how to get paid not to work, I'd much prefer that to actually working.
Sweet, congrats.
I never got why places did credit checks. They don't want to hire anyone who really needs the money? I don't believe my Aunt Sallie runs credit checks, but she won't hire you if you've ever defaulted on a student loan. I guess she doesn't want minions who are sympathetic to her victims?

Tomorrow is the big day!
Unfortunately I was up all night (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14829) last night and slept all day today, so getting a good night's sleep before the first day of work tomorrow is not going to be easy.
Oh well, who works on their first day of work anyway?

Oh well, who works on their first day of work anyway?Nobody! You'll be doing the HR thing and the "look at the newbie" thing and the "here's where everything is" thing.
Man, I so don't envy you ...
Did I ever say congrats? I don't think I did. Congratulations, vm!

Good stuff vm. How long is this contract for?
viscousmemories
12-03-2007, 01:36 PM
On paper it's for just under six months, but so was the last one and it ended up being about nine months (the max time they'll allow before a mandatory 100 day break). I'll be working under the same boss I had before, but I think doing different work. No doubt I'll know more after today.

I can't believe it took me this long to read this. Sorry vm along with huge congratulations. Especially after the last job went south. Good on you, you deserve it.
