Bush's stated approach to combatting Islamist terrorism is to spread democracy throughout the Middle East, right? Let's see how democracy is doing in our ally Saudi Arabia!

Saudi protesters get prison terms (http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/DA7DDA16-11A3-4C86-A8F3-CA97F145DF36.htm)

Saudi judge has sentenced 15 people to prison and flogging for taking part in anti-government protests last December.

The Okaz newspaper reported on Tuesday that the demonstrators were part of 21-strong group arrested in the Red Sea city of Jedda on 16 December "for taking part in a gathering".

The sentences ranged from one to six-month prison terms coupled with a pledge not to repeat such action, it said.

The 15 will also receive between 100 and 200 lashes "depending on the act committed by each defendant and whether he repented", the daily added.

Just yesterday I read [dead link??? (http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20050110-055504-5711r.htm)] that Saudi Arabia has already beheaded 6 people in the first 11 days of the year, a rate considerably higher than last years total of 39.

Do you mean King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz (http://www.kingfahdbinabdulaziz.com/)? If so, the answer is yes, but he suffered a debilitating stroke back in 1997. Crown Prince Abdullah is the defacto leader of Saudi Arabia.
