I was thinking of some abilities to turn an ordinary House Cat into Schroedenger's Cat for an pen&paper type RPG. The second is key to the concept, the first is to make it worth having him around.
Empathic Ability (of a Type): The Presence of this character within a group allows all Allies to use it as an Enhanced Talisman of one designated type once during the course of any given game. The bonus gained thereby may not be stacked with any Talisman’s they possess on their own person. When this ability is given out, the specific type of Talisman must be determined immediately, and no Talisman with a limited number of uses per day may be chosenn. Only those with an across the board bonus may be chosen for Empathic Ability.
Superposition: A character with this ability may not be affected by any Spell, Special Ability, or natural effect, unless it is actually seen by some conscious entity. If it is hidden, for example, it is not subject to Area of Affect spells. If it is hidden, it will not freeze to death in a cold environment or die of thirst in the desert. The specific location of the creature may always be determined by the GM, and if someone looks at that spot, the creature will come into existence at that time, appearing as though it were already there, but until that moment it rests in an indeterminate state. For purposes of this ability, random insects or animals, or for that matter god’s being their omnipotent selves do not trigger the creature’s existence.
(Alternatively, Superposition could be a problem that makes the creature exist only when damaged by others. If healed completely it cases to exist.)
(Alternative 3: It has Undead Qualities when not seen by others. When seen it comes back to life.)
(Alternative 4: Undead unless seen. So, it wants to be with people, because it hates to be dead, but when not seen it becomes powerful.)
