Ok, 10 players.

I'll start a new thread that will be for game play only. Maybe we could use this thread for commentary and trash talking :D

I think trash talking should be mandatory :yup:

I'll randomly decide the order of play and deal out the cards. After supper, it's supper time.

wei yau
02-28-2008, 06:56 PM
Isn't it interesting that the order in which people sign up just happens to be the order in which players will get eliminated from the tournament?

We can't trash talk when we take our turn at the table? It's better (IMO) to keep the actual play thread just for bets and results. Makes it easier for players and spectators to keep track of the game.

slimshady2357
02-28-2008, 08:06 PM
OOPS!

Was reviewing the PM's I sent and I called everyone's PM Hand 1 except for wei, mistyped it as Hand 3. Sorry wei, that really is for Hand 1.

:yeahthat: Especially since the timing stretches out 'cause people are all over the world. If banter is allowed in the game thread, it can end up overwhelming the flow.

Yeah, dumbass!

You'll have a hard enough time remembering your hole cards, let alone distinguishing trash talk from game play.

If you're the first to act in a hand, or, if there is no bet in front of you in a hand you would "bet 4" not "raise 4" (as Sock just did). I point this out only because I'm a nit picker (and an ass) and if you're playing elsewhere in the future you won't be picked off as easy meat. :D

So:
If you are the first to act, or there is no bet in front of you then 1) you would "check" not "call" (since there is no bet to call) and 2) you would "bet X" not "raise X" (since you are not raising anyone's bet).

Oh and to make everything clear, it's sometimes confusing how people bet. So if I have bet 5 and liv says "raise 10" does she mean that she is raising me by 5 to make the whole bet 10? Or does she mean she is raising me a further 10 to make the whole bet 15?

I'd appreciate it if everyone could try to use "raise to X" so that we know what the bet currently stands at.

e.g. I "bet 5" and then liv wants to raise it 10 more, it would be great if she could say "raise to 15".

Sorry for the terminology lesson

Your ways of gameplay scare me. When I see chips, I don't understand how they represent monetary values. The abstract concept frightens and confuses me. All I can do is run away in fear...to my spa and Sven and his magic Shiatsu fingers. Only his firm massage and a fifteen minute steam can sooth my primitive mind.

Truth to tell, I tried to buy the pot at pre-flop.

Since I was successful last hand with similarly pretty crappy hole cards, I figured I had to go at it aggressively.

This is why I suck at poker in real life.

slimshady2357
03-04-2008, 11:44 PM
Why is everyone folding?

They're folding because that's the dirty little secret about texas hold'em, people fold a lot.

You see it on TV and the cut down 10 hours to 2 and cover 2 or 3 tables as well. Still, when you get a bunch of green horns together like we got here, you can expect some good fireworks most hands :twoguns::fireworks::twoguns:

wei yau
03-04-2008, 11:46 PM
So, I should simply go all-in as soon as one of these non-greenhorn types stop folding?

That way, we can see a "professional" game is played.

Woohoo! Let's wait twelve hours to watch yet another player fold.

Leesifer
03-04-2008, 11:51 PM
Ooh! wei's got his bitch on tonight.

So perhaps the next poker game should be a "winnar takes all, one game of poker".

I'm up for that, then we can rotate who runs the game/deals the cards.

slimshady2357
03-05-2008, 11:24 PM
For future reference, if you are in a situation (like Legs just was) where you can 'check' then you should never fold. It costs you nothing to stay in the hand. If you get to see some more cards then you might make a better hand later. And it gives you a chance to bluff later as well. Finally, if everyone is checking, you might just have (or make) the best hand without thinking you do. Basically, it will gain you nothing to fold, but you have a chance to win some chips later by staying in the hand and it costs you nothing.

Yes, that is correct, if she stays in this hand there will be a side pot. Julie's 2 chips and 2 chips from anyone else who stays in goes into the main pot. Anyone can win the main pot. The rest of everyone's chips that stays goes into the side pot, Julie cannot win the side pot.

He's not a puppy but he's the most lovely dog I've ever met. He's a rescue greyhound. Sou will only get rescue animals, why get an animal from a breeder or pet shop when there are so many that need a home, is her thinking.

And I have to say, he really is just an awesome dog. He's 8 years old and he's all black with a grey face - cause he's old :D He's one of the most friendly dogs I've ever met, but more impressive is how calm he is, totally placid. Even when the vet was shoving his finger down the dogs ear to get out some wax he just stood there, didn't try to move, didn't bark, just stood there, totally still. He never, ever barks unless he meets a new dog on a walk. He learns super fast, he's not naughty... he's almost as lazy as us... he's perfect :)

We kept his name from the rescue home, Bandit. I'll post some pics in a little while after I PM the new hands.
