For all those who think I was crazy for moving to 'Bama, I offer this shot, taken a 20 minute boat ride from my house.

I was looking at some pics I took last year, for art work now that I have actually painted walls and such, and came across this. Is that a postcard or what?

It is the only surviving section of what was once a casino (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narragansett_Pier_Casino) built in 1883--the neat thing I know about it was my great-grandfather on my mother's side helped cut the stone that was used to build it. :yup:

Two weeks after I moved back here, my mom and I went hiking in Malibu. It was early March, so the wildflowers were in bloom something fierce. I loved the Blue Bonnets when I was in Texas, and I love the Golden Poppies here. I don't really know how to photograph flowers, but I think they're beautiful enough on their own that it doesn't really matter. The ones in Malibu have that orange-on-the-inside/yellow-on-the-outside thing that I'm used to seeing in drawings. Everywhere else in LA they are solid orange (or like purple, or whatever, but I don't think you can call those ones Golden).

Another shot, a wide one, to really give the idea that there were a lot of flowers. Like, a whole lot. I don't think the photos do justice to what I felt when I was there, but that's my own shortcoming as a photographer.

Well I drew my first substantial check on a retainer today, so I said fuck it, it took me nearly eight years to be able to do this, so I went and splurged on a digital camera so now I'll go find something beautiful nearby. It could take awhile though.

I love this thread.
Why do I live where I live? Since I'm too lazy to open up photobucket and upload these, and dA doesn't like hotlinking, have a few attachments. First one is the city of Atlanta from the porch of the orchid house of the Botanical Gardens.
Second one is the Chattahoochee River at night from the banks of a park in Roswell.
Drive two hours north and you get to the highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald Mountain. This is a picture of the observatory on top.
Go about 6 hours into south Georgia and you find my favorite of Georgia's barrier islands, Saint Simons. This is a sunrise from the beach.

Some people don't like the next scenes...too run down for them. But I find something compelling about hardworking people and worked hard boats. I love going by the fisheries with the shrimpers docked. Love it. These bitches (the boats I mean) have seen it all and still go for more nightly. Also, this area has been a fishing village for 300 years, so that's my adopted heritage right there. I read somewhere some of these shrimpers are refitted antique schooners.

I will look for somethng with Tulsa skyline and a small pasture with three paints. Why do we live here? Cause my job brought us here and it put us closer to family. Ends up Dings family will settle in Oregon and mine will be in Texas for eternity..really. Oklahoma is beautiful in all seasons, but spring and first half of summer are fun because every little town seems to have a festival of sorts. I hope to make most of them this year. I may have missed the azeala festival, but I have heard locals talking about rooster days and of course, Mayfest is around the corner.

Tiny crab! Go to any beach on the Puget Sound, turn over a rock and chances are a bunch of these will scuttle out. They come in all kinds of colors and they are tiny.
When we first came out here we went all over the place. I took pictures, but did not have a digital camera. I'll have to see if I have anything worth scanning in the piles of pictures I have from the film camera.

The shots of Mt Hood are otherworldly, Zehava. I have to visit Oregon some day.
I don't have a camera, so I cribbed these off google.
This is Hollyrood Park, a collection of hills in the centre of Edinburgh. The city is built up right around them.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9c/Edinburgh_Arthur_Seat_dsc06165.jpg/800px-Edinburgh_Arthur_Seat_dsc06165.jpg
This is a shot from the top, looking South. You can see the Pentland hills in the distance:
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2280/1563149792_1f70725c35.jpg?v=0
To the Northwest you can see most of the city, with Edinburgh castle perched on its hill in the middle, and beyond that the Firth of Forth. To the Northeast you can see the sea. I couldn't find pictures to do it justice.
It was clear blue skies today, and so I spent the afternoon walking around Hollyrood. It's awesome that after a ten minute walk, I have gone from navigating Edinburgh streets crammed full of busy shoppers, to climbing hills in Hollyrood Park. I got very burnt unfortunately!

Here's some pics I took today
There are two bridges across the river Waal, one is a railway bridge that is very close to where I live. They attached a bicycle and pedestrian part to it a couple of years ago. The other one is a traffic bridge you can also ride a bike or walk across. So I often walk across one and come back by way of the other one. I took the first two from the railway bridge (you can see the other bridge in the background) and the last one from the other bridge, outward. You can see the hill that the town is partly built on, it was created by a glacier during the last Ice Age.

I love stuff like that!!
How old do you think it is?I really don't know. The style seems to be 1800s, but it seems possible that it could have been built up the 1940s (or later for various reasons) The awning in the front as well as the plumbing shown in the following picture could be newer additions. The large windows are probably newer as well, given the style of the smaller ones.

This shows the back half of the upper story. The house is built up against a hill. Part of the floor here has been removed, showing the dirt of the hillside.
Besides the plumbing, there is an electrical outlet visible. Another room had wiring quite visible inside the walls. All of the interior paneling has been removed, either as part of an attempt at remodeling or else by looters.

Not technically where I live, or even why I live there. But it's something beautiful and cool nearby.

I want that stone house!!
Petra, I have been playing with the shot of the live oak, colorizing and such, it may become a piece of art in my living room. The live oaks are one of my fave things about living here, they are just so cool.

Because this is the view from my porch and in my backyard (all 5 acres of it). Miles of nothing until the corn starts to come up. At least it's green now and not a blanket of never ending snow. It's not as pretty in this part of Iowa since it's so flat, great for the farmers but I need a bit more variety. Where I grew up there are at least hills and trees and some very pretty scenery.

Yeah. A Burgomaster sounds more important than a simple mayor. :giggle:

The last one is basically the same view as from our master bedroom and adjoining deck, I snagged it from the MLS listing for a house right down the street.
That's why I love living here. Clean air, ocean views, mellow vibe, good Mexican food and a Trader Joe's within walking distance :yup:

Took several pictures when me and my two boys went on our overnight hike in a popular state park here several weeks back....BUT WON'T upload them from my computer here since I GOT A SERIOUS chewing from the Air Force for doing that last year when I simply uploaded a picture of my daughter from my computer (at that time) to the Countdown thread here on the forum.
Any suggestions on how to share them with you fine folk?

Wow, you all guys live in gorgeous places. I live in Baltimore so turn your tv on when The Wire is on.
I've never seen that show actually and I hear people saying it's an exaggeration and Baltimore does have many beautiful neighborhoods and historical rowhouses with stunning architectures but it also has many run-down and scary neighborhoods.
