View Full Version : ChuckF in France: Part Deux?

As part of my constant efforts to delay the beginning of real life as long as possible, I applied for a low-paying but very easy position teaching English in France on a 6- to 9-month contract. Today I received the invitation to work in or around Limoges. I don't have the specifics of exactly where I'll be or with what age students I'll be working; those should come in June. I'm not going to accept it unless I get my top choice, which was working with university-level students. But since I indicated no other preferences at all, I'm optimistic that I'll land that. Even if I don't, no big deal, I just won't go.
Anywho. That's what new by me. Watch out enfants de la patrie. Le jour de Chuck est arrivé! Maybe.

Since when did they move Eastern Europe and Russia to France?
Hey...The last time you left, they threw a huge national party the day after. Are you sure you should return?

I'm giving up the Russia and Eastern Europe thing. I've kind of come to hate it, which is why I'm at something of a career crossroads.

Aw...I'm sorry, Chuck.
I thought the whole Slavic career path could have led you into some very interesting work. You could have gotten a job monitoring the clients we utilize for our "extraordinary renditions" program. Or even have become an economic hit man in central Asia.
I must have missed some announcement.....
Well...I guess if you just can't get enough mayonaisse on your frits, it's time to go back. Good luck on the Limoges job...I hope you get university age students. (hubba hubba...:eyes:)

Damn... and after all that time on a language few people around outside of Eastern Europe speak. I should put you to work translating shit for me, lest all that education go to waste. :yup:
So, you'll just postpone the law school thing, then? (Where did you get accepted, by the way? I never found that out.)
Last year there was some law school in Florida that was giving away free iPods to their new students. If they're giving away iPods to entice students to attend, it must be top notch, right? :giggle:
Anyway, good luck if you go. May you make many hairy French girls eligible to honk at your bumper sticker.

Thanks all.

Ain't I just? Now that you're gainfully employed, I can hate you back.
Good Luck with the job, Chuck, maybe you can rekindle the romance with your old girlfriend?

She's in Limoges?
Wouldn't he be better off just picking up a couple new ones? A la cherchez la femme?
What, you never heard of trains?

Sure...I've heard of trains.
Kinky...
Excellent, good luck.
So if you get this job, are you going to take it over the other one?
ChuckF
04-30-2008, 05:49 AM
Most def. Probably wouldn't take the other one anyway, depending on the $.
Also, France is much more exciting than Boone.

Ah, France, the only thing I know about Limoges is they make lots of tacky china that old ladies collect or they used to.
I am jealous you get to go back. With the stronger Euro, it may not be such a bad paying job after all.

Sounds like a freaking awesome opportunity Chuck. Make sure you stay in touch here. Do they have the internet in Europe?:chin:

Is there even enough Europe to contain Chuck's schlong or will it have to stay behind? :shakechucksworld:
Good luck postponing real life.

Well, hate me back, too, because I am as jealous (jealous again!) as a secretly, guiltily, intellectually ambitious talk-radio host thinking about one of the liberal elite.

Oh, wait. You're not dying, only Frenchie-fying again.
Congrats, Chuck. Say bonjour to my brother Jim, who moved to Paris last week.

Oh, trust me. It is. But it's not about the money. :aristocrat:

Last time it took some serious sneaking around to get interwebs. Lots of intrigue involving late-night hospital break-ins (really).

It will come along, but expect average rents to increase as people are forced into the cities.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it since this job wouldn't start until Septemberish. But you guys should drink for me.

So I got some more information. I got the contract I wanted, the only catch is that I am posted in the region of Bumfuck, France. I think I may be teaching English to the cattle or something. But I think I'm going to do it anyway. It's only for six months. It will be cold, but on the plus side it's really cheap to live there, so I should have disposable income despite the crappy salary.
Bonne chance
or however you say it

Cesar: Drink this.
Bart: Oh, no thanks.
Cesar: Do not worry. This is France. (Chuckles) It is customary for children to take a little wine now and then.
Bart: Yeah, but it's got anti-freeze in there.
Cesar: Drink it!

Some financial calculations regarding plans for future education suggest that this France thing may not be the ideal thing for me to be doing right now. In addition, I find that my enthusiasm for the job and the place has waned some. As such, I'm applying for some jobs stateside before I leave. If one works out, I might bail on France this time.
