How easy would it be to implement LaTeX typesetting here?

Over at the Physics forum (which also runs vBulletin 3) they have it, and it can do some pretty stuff.

Check out this thread for examples:

Of course, being a Physics forum, that is all geeky maths type stuff, but LaTeX is also capable of non-math formatting.

The thread you reference has 432 posts already. Is this a good sign? I'm not sure. (in over a year, admittedly.)

Anyway, it seems like the vbcode for latex (sorry, LaTeX) was developed by the forum owners there and would need to be acquired from them, if at all.

Weeeell... There is a hack, actually, which vm's been looking at, but it's a beta, it's to all intents and purposes unsupported, and to my delicate eyes, scary as hell. I most definitely think it's worth a shot, particularly since we've got all manner of math and physics types around here now, but I'll leave vm to comment on the scary particulars.

After looking around the vb.org site I think our best bet might be asking physicsforums if they're willing to share their hack with us. I'm not sure there's a stable one available elsewhere. Incidentally I've never been there before, and I notice they have a fairly heavily trafficked philosophy area. I might have to peek around a bit.
