View Full Version : IIDB moderators?

I didn't come to this forum from IIDB, but rather from the JREF (http://forums.randi.org/) and Skeptical Community (http://www.skepticalcommunity.com/phpbb2/) forums. I have all of two posts on IIDB (august 2002) and I never really paid much attention to it since then.
Anyway, today I was looking a thread at IIDB (something I rarely ever do unless someone references it elsewhere), and it just now dawned on me how many of the people here also post at IIDB (or maybe it's the other way around).
I guess it shouldn't surprise me, given who owns this forum.
So now I'm curious, how many of the IIDB moderators post here?
If this has been discussed in a previous thread, please point me to it, thanks.

.
Hmmm. As far as I know, hardly any.
Some ex-mods and ex-admin, definitely; but not too sure about current ones.

Seebs is a mod.
Roland98 is an admin at IIDB, as is Crazyfingers though he only visits occasionally.

Yeah, but seebs was posting here before he was made a mod there so surely he doesn't count. ;)
I'm incredibly tired (yes, even at this hour; so I'm old, so fucking sue me. :glare:) so I can't think of any other current IIDB mods on the memberlist, but I'm a former, wade's a former, even dave_a/dantonac was an IIDB mod for a second a while back.
Oh, and Ymir's blood posting all nonchalantly up there was an IIDB admin back in the day, as were Adam and pescifish.

A quick perusal of their moderator list revealed to me the following FF members:
Albion, Gawen, Brimshack, MollyMac, and xorbie
Most of whom don't post a lot here... guess they're kept busy there. :)

Does diana not post here? Or is she not a mod there? Or am I on dope?
xorbie

Humph. I do to post here a lot.
edit: Wow, guess not. It seems I lurk more here. But in truth I would say that I spend roughly has as much time on this board as I do on II, there's just no MCR in which I can make six or so posts a day.

She was a mod, but before my time, which is over a year. COAS is also a former mod, not sure if anyone's mentioned her.

I don't think Diana posts here, not unless she changed her name.

She has, but not recently. Under the name 'huntress'.

Why can't people use their new usernames to at least hint at what their old usernames were? You know, give us some way to make the connection.
Sheesh!

Hey! I just noticed this. I'll have you know that at least a good 50% of the owners of this forum show up as the boogeyman in moderator bedtime stories. :P

I moderated ~Elsewhere~ for a few months, back in the day. Then summer came and I got busy. Then my employer blocked IIDB, the bastards.

Reprise modded for us as well and is around here occasionally.
Just curious--why are you focusing on the mods?

Because we are so unbelievably cool and hip and he's jealous.
Duh.

Roland98: Just curious--why are you focusing on the mods?
Mostly out of idle curiosity. And it also gives me a better handle on how to interpret the context of what people sometimes post on this forum.

You and liv seem to have no idea whatsoever how much the rest of us admire both your knowledge and your ability to rise above the crap.

FWIW, I was a very short-term mod....
I have nothing bad whatsoever to say about the IIDB. While I might have disagreed with the most recent objectives of the SecWeb - and I do, it's not like Liv and I hate each other because we have different opinions on specific issues.
I DID violate the IIDB mob rules by mentioning Liv's contribution to the same. It's not Liv's fault, it's mine. You want to know how dumb I am? I thought that Liv was female. Shocked, I tell you. How can I ever follow the yellow brick road with confidence. How can I EVER wear red jazz shoes again?
I could while away the hours....

Me too. livius is female, of course, but I have no idea what the rest is about.

Have IIDB's mob rules finally been codified? Well I call that progress. :D
(I think reprise was just making a way, way too generous comment about my skillz on the job -- particularly wrt to writing the mod handbook -- and then noting that perhaps by so commenting she was violating moderator policy as stipulated in said handbook. I'm not sure about the gender-bending bit, but yup, I'm still a woman, reprise. Thank you for the kind words, btw; especially the totally unwarranted and highly flattering comparison to Roland98.)

Ah. I thought reprise was talking about the new IIDB mission statement, and I didn't think you were even a mod at the time (though I may be wrong). I think a few of the folks who worked on it aren't mods anymore though.

I am quite hurt that you would believe that I have such a nefarious motive. I assure you I was thinking only of the public good.

Sorry, so xorbie's got cool hips and Roland has a lower specific gravity than feces? This thread is confusing. And could we please stop carrying on about livius' Freudian slit? I mean, talk about the pubic good...

Could be, could be. The new mission statement was barely even begun when I resigned.

Modding GRD is the IIDB equivalent of having been a tunnel rat in Vietnam: it's the Platonic form of the shit job.

liv does as well, so it would seem. 'Tis an honor to be compared to her, even if it is just for our apparently similar abilities to transcend shit. :)

The lot of them that I know are a pretty diverse group of people who had various levels of devotion to moderating and many different reasons for not being moderators anymore. So probably the only safe inference is that IIDB has a relatively high mod turnover. (Though relative to what is another good question.)

Modding GRD is the IIDB equivalent of having been a tunnel rat in Vietnam: it's the Platonic form of the shit job. Nothing, I say, nuthin' compares to the last ditch bilge pump effort of modding the long-dead Freethought Private Forums at IIDB. :winner: I'm taking that fucking trophy, even if it was short-deathed and two years ago.
Platonic? FPF modding was positively Titanic.

It's not even close. News & Current Events and General Apologetics at CF are an order of magnitude worse, easily.
For reference, and without going into specifics that would violate either forum's confidentiality: Both of those forums probably get more reports in a day than all of IIDB does in two.
