Lleyton took the first set easily ("dominated Safin", in commentator speak), but Safin has managed to get the second set.

I was going for Safin all the way. Hewitt started off with truly excellent tennis and Safin started off.... well as he put it, you couldn't even call it tennis. It was ridiculous, again his choice of word.

But Safin seemed to believe that if he just stayed in it and kept trying he would get his chances, and he did. His mental attitude, as seen in the Federer and Hewitt matches, has really improved. He still smashes the occasional raquet, but now he seems to be able to hang in there and fight. I hope it continues, he might be the only one who can truly challenge Federer.
