It was mentioned in this thread (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1628&page=3) that perhaps one could be put in the Lifestyles forum. I mentioned that I'd once made a similar suggestion at II, but to no avail.

A place with threads like, "What's there to do in <location>?" Locals and others who've visited <location> would be able to chime in with their tips and suggestions. One could also arrange to meet other board members if they're so inclined.

Other travel related threads could also be put there. I'm thinking perhaps of ones involving ideas of driving routes, packing ideas, etc.

Anyone else think this idea has merit?

I do think think the idea has merit, but at this point I don't think we have quite the traffic for it. I dared godfry (http://www.freethought-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1649) to start with the thread proliferatin' and so far he's done a fine job of it. I'm all for creating new forums when we reach critical mass, I just don't think we're quite there yet.

What do you think, Shake? Can we combat forum tumbleweed syndrome with the current posting levels?

Well, if I could get the likes of Shake, JoeP and other screwloose footloose types to post in Lifestyles on travel topics, we'd build enough synergy to launch it.

I've been noting travel thread by thread title lines with the "Travel:" preface.

If we get all the travellers down there, we can force the issue.

Force the issue, eh? I don't know how I've gotten this reputation as a hardass. I blame the :livcrop:.

Just as a suggestion, why don't we try posting Travel: threads in lots of different forums? There's nothing that annoys our administress as much as disorder and disorganisation.

If that doesn't work, we could post using the Impact font. That's been known to influence her.

What have I done to deserve such needling? I upload smilies as fast as I can, Joe, I swear. :sadnana:

I did think of the traffic issue, but much later. Although I think having such a thing might just generate some traffic of its own.

I remember a thread at II about what to do in NYC -- last I remember there were something like 5 pages, with some good posts from some locals about all sorts of places. The best thing was that many most of them you'd never find in a travel brochure.
